In any event trying to show up your coach is a dumb move if that is what the kid’s tweet was meant to imply.
Kelly doesn’t put up with a bunch of crap from players who don’t give full effort. I’m not saying that “fatigued” explanation from Kelly indicated Lenzy wasn’t giving full effort because I don’t know the situation and neither do you. I do know Lenzy did not travel with the team to two away games this year- whether due to injury or other factors I don’t know.
Saban doesn’t put up with any crap from his players and they know it. He does have the luxury of sitting them if he feels necessary in meaningless games especially because Alabama has much better depth of talent.
And no, I am not claiming Kelly is in Saban’s league as a head coach, but then you could count the ones who are on one hand with fingers left over.
same sentence is a huge error unless you're discussing how bad Saban kicks Kelly's butt. Their decision process could be similar but execution differs by a country mile. That's been proven and is not speculation.
Kelly should learn if you hang your players out to dry like he routinely does in the media, expect to get it back. Yes, that's what's different in today's world. Is it right? No. But is it right for Kelly to do it? No. Respect is a two-way street. This ain't Junction Boys.

It's the same thing just not targeting one person. Kelly is BS. He's done a great job building a program but he's gone about as far as he can go and his antics are getting old.
I'm pretty sure at this point there isn't one thing you and I will agree on except the sun rose and set.
absolved. Fatigued was a dumb term to use. Keep in mind, Kelly also said he didn’t have enough money in the trust bank. different kids are motivated in different ways. using the media to “motivate” lenzy just may not be the way to go.
Maybe what Kelly did motivated him?

doesn't look good. It's not a good practice, but neither is Kelly talking BS about his players which he does all the time. These types of things definitely send a message that you can't push me around. It's not right, but Kelly deserves this one.
Granted, I believe after something like this and knowing Kelly's lack of ability to handle guys like this, my guess is Lenzy is wearing a different uniform next year.
judgment than to make that crack to the media. Good coaches know their players and how to motivate them. Kelly hasn’t impressed me as a guy whose players know he has their backs no matter what is said in private.

to not travel to Duke. If people have legitimate criticisms of Kelly have at it, but second guessing everything that happens in the program cheapens the point you all are trying to make.
I would take Kelly and discipline over Urban Meyer and and his consistently demonstrated ability to turn the blind eye every day. I would not be a fan of a program like Meyer ran at Florida or Ohio State with the National Championships.
Kelly is a top notch throw yer players under the bus guy. It’s never his fault.
“Sophomore receivers Braden Lenzy and Joe Wilkins both did not make the trip to Duke due to injury concerns.”
“Lenzy has had some fatigue issues,” Kelly said. “We wanted to protect him.
“Joe has been much more of a hamstring issue, a lingering hamstring that we wanted to get right. In both of these instances, guys that just needed some protection relative to the rigors of the season. They’re closer to being where we need them, but it’ll really be determined by how they practice on Tuesday.”

Especially if the guy isn’t injured or “fatigued”. Stupid ass comment.

It looks bad, yes. Would I have done it, probably not but in some situations without a doubt. Kelly can't control everything the way he likes to. These kids have only 4 years to prove they are worthy of their lifelong goal of making it to the NFL. The way Kelly controls and ruins that for many talented kids is sad. Especially when he constantly makes up bullcrap non-football related excuses as to why they aren't playing.
People have a voice today, that's the world we live in. It's reality. When you're unjustifiably being held back (in your eyes) you can use many platforms to voice your opinion. In this case Lenzy is right. It's sad on Kelly's part that it got to this point but this is 100% Kelly's fault. Basics of depth chart management could have solved this last year.
Play your talent and you don't have to worry about this for the most part. ND needs more attitude and passion like this. Not the crap that Kelly can smush in a box and control. Championship teams aren't made of a bunch of squares.
Otherwise, ND will always be 8-4 or 10-2...
What do you reckon the reaction of Lou would've been if one of his players pouted and whined in public like this?
I thought too excessively but Ricky became a border line Hall of Fame NFLer who probably would have gotten in if he escaped the injury bug at the end of his career. Good coaches with good lessons have to discipline in some way.

the transfer window.
And, bigger picture, this problem proliferates so long as we shrug our shoulders and say that this is just the new reality. Believe, I'm guilty of it at work, too.
Edit: One of my favorite lines from an ND coach, ND's shortest-tenured coach, George O' Leary, after being asked by a reporter if he was worried about how he would adjust his tough style to ND players - "They better be worried about how they'll adjust to me."
Particularly in an age when players and others are demanding that they be paid, like professionals, they need to act like it.
Just something to keep in mind..
But when you go to the media and take your shots at players with them, you invite the comeback in this day and age.
Why can't the " team cancers " be the 2nd team long snappers, instead of game breakers like Kevin Stepherson, Dexter Williams, Kevin Austin, and Braden Lenzy?

It's a fact. It's happened time, after time, after time in Kelly's tenure at ND.
That's the problem. It's not that talent isn't at ND. It's not being used.
Making excuses for public whining doesn't reflect well on anyone. Particularly in football.

Braden is " fatigued " of BK's BS, but this tweet will put him back in the dog house and nailed to the bench again. Pathetic!
