2nd round for a TE is as good as it gets

You'll have a truly exceptional TE prospect the likes of an Eric Green or Vernon Davis once in a blue moon, but for the most part, it's exceptionally rare that TE's get a 1st round projection.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he declared for the draft after the game. Since he already has a 2nd round projection, it's unlikely he'd gain anything by staying another year.

Maybe with an outstanding showing at the NFL combines, he could possibly sneak into the 1st round, but that's a separate issue.

With one taken at #8.

And they were projected to be 1st rounders.

Like both of the other posts noted, the TE position does play a bigger role in how offensives are evolving both for the move guys as receivers and the guys who can be effective blockers as some of the high producing offenses are running more.

still iffy for Kmet to stay and improve on 2nd round, however. He doesn't have elite speed. He is big and has good hands and a pretty good catch radius. I could see him declaring, but would not be surprised either way.

Six tight ends have been taken in the first round over the last three drafts.

ND has been Tight End U since Dave Casper. Kmet continues the legacy. Hope he stays.
