Reaffirms what many of us know, he's an undeniably lazy recruiter. The quotes in this article..ouch.
Link: ND Insider on recruiting whiffs.
On McMillan, I doubt Kelly saw the effort as worth it, and he would have been correct.
ND's coaches stayed on Ransom, but tOSU is simply better at putting DBs in the NFL right now. ND can't compete with them there. At least not yet.
Seems fair to hand pick two kids
what some 17 year old kid has to say. Nobody knows what really happened here. We’ve just been talking about how much recruiting has improved. How good the ‘21 class is shaping up and how we are in on so many more Top 100 recruits. But some “slighted” kids say they didn’t get enough attention and suddenly the sky is falling. How in the world did we just land such a good class and currently sit with the #1 class for next year? What that kid is saying doesn’t add up.

great year in 2020. Could be truly special.
I don't care why this kid's pussy hurts...a 60 year old man isn't texting him enough? What the fuck???
Stop the negative bullshit. We are on our way.
BETA!
Only Brian Kelly.... Still thinks he is at Grand Valley St. instead of Notre Dame🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️

The question is why didn't they choose Notre Dame? The kids say I didn't have as good a relationship with them as I did other schools. The other schools hit me up all the time, I never heard from Kelly, he never texted me. The other schools texted me all the time. I was more comfortable with them, had a better relationship.
If you're in the job market and there are two jobs you like and are considering, one has the CEO personally contacting you expressing their interest, the other doesn't, are you needy and entitled for feeling better about the first one? Of course not.
How in the world were the other players able to overcome the sleight of Brian Kelly not contacting them daily?
17 year-olds are notorious exaggerators. Is it possible that Brian Kelly never "texted?" Maybe. I doubt it.
Either Kelly texted 3 times a day[!] other high school boy/recruits and/or their parents so that they had a "relationship" that enabled them to feel "comfortable" to come to ND or these boys required more ... attention. The article's author could have tried to anonymize these kids but he didn't. (I wonder if he even bothered to get their guardians' permission to quote them.) Instead he revealed them to be needy and pathetic.

was uphill. I can't see how you can call him a lazy recruiter. What were the guys before him then?
Can't throw assistants under the bus for failing him............again, if he was actively recruiting alongside them.
The politician always leaves himself/herself wiggle room to blame others for failures. A BK trademark.

he should be more involved or is it dictated by the primary recruiter. I don't know and unless you have first hand knowledge people don't either.
I assume coaches have to prioritize because there is only so much time available for sucking up to recruits, but haters will jump on whatever narrative fits their agenda.
Brian Kelly sucks at recruiting as much as he does coaching.

What's equally disturbing is that the old dude will be yelling at these guys once they are signed the very instant they fail to perform for any reason.
These kids are used to being coddled
Why stop now?

Over the last 2 years, it seems Kelly is increasingly aloof ("I'm the CEO..blah, blah, blah...I've moved past calling plays...blah, blah, blah"). Note that on signing day in December, none of the videos showed Kelly on videocalls with the commits; it's always the assistants. Is he bored by recruiting? Ed Orgeron isn't; Nick Saban isn't; Dabo Swinney isn't.
