Link: What the Departure of Phil Jurkovec Means for Notre Dame

I suspect the staff knew this was coming, and it was part of their calculus when signing the current class and two grad transfers.
And the numbers seem pretty strong at DT (4 deep) and LB (virtually 4 deep) so I would expect to drop another from that group to get to 85.

to their offensive system,” so what did they see when they recruited him? “ wow, look at all his offers, let’s grab him before anyone else does!”? Or ! We can’t get a top QB, get him?
Phil's HS coach said their offense was a subset ( 75-80%) of Kelly's offense.
Granted, Phil had to adjust to the speed and quality of college defenses, particularly in game conditions.
Since Book spent much of his time running for his life and winging it, it's hard to believe
"learning the offense" was ever a problem.
Time will tell if there is a villain or weak link here.
I believe a head coach could fill every hour of every day with time spent "stroking 17 year old egos." Because they are dealing with hundreds of potentials, they have to pick their battles based on likelihood of committing and based on their assessment of the candidates.
If Rees doesn't think Jurkovec will come around, should Kelly insist they play him anyway to make Phil happy?
You appear to be drawing the conclusion that losing Jurkovec and not getting the commitment of two recruits is the fault of the coaching staff and not a decision by the staff for the betterment of the team.
If Jurkovic had been a worthy QB for Notre Dame, it would be apparent by now. Not every recruit pans out, especially at that position. Good luck to him.

and probably wouldn't have been next season, but might have been the season after that...he didn't have the patience to wait and see, so sucks for us but best of luck to him.
No one's fault, things happen, it's real life not PlayStation...
