1. 1998:In 1998, Notre Dame opened the season at home against Michigan, the defending co-national champion. ... Thanks in part to two touchdown passes from Jarious Jackson ('00) and a pair of rushing scores by Autry Denson ('99), Notre Dame pulled off a 36-20 upset.

17 LSU Tigers (9-3) didn't quite live up to expectations in 2017, but they still had a solid season that wraps up in the Citrus Bowl against the No. 14 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (9-3), in one of the last bowl games of the season

First ND game was 66 Navy.

'77: Montana and the NC. What a fun year.
'93: We beat FSU, lost the heartbreaker the next week to Fredo (but the McDoungal-led 4th quarter comeback was truly memorable), then won the bowl game over 10-1 Texas A&M. One play away from an undefeated NC.
If it is in my lifetime 1966 and 1973.
1970 because that was the year I became a Notre Dame fan. Every Sunday, after church I'd rush home in time to catch Lindsey Nelson and Notre Dame highlights and we now continue with further action and watching Joe Theismann. Sunday mornings were great.

1988 and 1993 I loved Tony Rice and Kevin McDougal!!!

a little faster who would have been a superstar.
73 we got every break we needed and 88 made not winning one in 89 less satisfying. I thought Miami was better in 88 and we were better in 89.

The next time a Notre Dame team only allows their opponents to score a total of 38 points against them in an entire season and only 17 of those points are scored against the first team defense, I will give this a second thought. This was the first year I watched Notre Dame and have been hoping for a season like that ever since.

1966 because it was really ND proclaiming that "We are back baby" after 5 straight seasons without a winning record from 1959-1963. The 1964 team was robbed of a national championship, but '66 came through!
1973 because I was a junior then, and to live through such a great season, especially since I was working in Ann Arbor at the time, for me was just the greatest.

It's a damn shame we didn't win the NC in at least one of those seasons.
The 1992 NDFB was LOADED with RIDICULOUS talent.
You must be too young to remember ND greatness.

Post Holtz, my 2 favorite seasons were 2012 and 2017.
2012 wasn't the most talented team, but simply refused to lose.
2017 was such a pleasant surprise following the 2016 disaster...Also, for a about a 6 game stretch that team was the most dominant of any team since Holtz.
