I agree, he's looked good when he's been in there. He was recruited to play Rover. Maybe he just needed to fully learn the inside responsibilities.
A lot can happen over an 11 game season, some of which could put him on the field a lot.
If I understand the new rule correctly, even if a player plays this year it won’t count against his eligibility for next year. Correct me if I am wrong.
Anyway if that is the case, he basically throws away this year’s potential playing time whereas if he stayed with the team he could still transfer and play next year.

Maybe there is something I missed, or maybe he just wanted to rest a year away from football, or maybe discussions with the coaching staff encouraged him to make the decision he did.
I don’t like to see ND lose depth considering the uncertainty of COVID this season, but if both sides are happy that is what matters.
