The El Dorado Royale Resort just north of Playa Del Carmen is an exceptional place to relax, enjoy outstanding cuisine at several restaurants on site, and is located literally next door to Mayacoba and Iberostar golf courses which are as good as any anywhere on the planet. Riviera Maya is also of the ilk and is about 45 minutes away. Shuttles are available to and from. Throw in the Hard Rock Golf Club and what a great quartet for anyone wanting to play exceptional golf any time of year. We did it last Nov. I would rank it as good a trip as one could find, the equal (actually better) of the Monterrey Peninsula as far as playing conditions and challenge from our experience (I have played Pebble Beach, Spanish Bay, Poppy Hills, and Monterrey Peninsula CC many times)...but of course not from an aesthetic point of view where Monterrey is unsurpassed. I have no dog in the hunt, but give my personal guarantee that no one who enjoys wonderfully conditioned and challenging golf would be disappointed. The El Dorado Royale, however, is an all- inclusive resort and as such, those who enjoy heavy alcohol might find the drinks a bit weak...though plentiful. The wines are excellent.
