Will ND try for a graduate transfer via the portal or are we happy with Clark, Pyne and Buchner competing in what I think will be a transitional year?
pick. He’s the highest rated QB recruit of the Kelly era. He should be given every opportunity to win the job and gain experience. Pyne is a step behind him but also projects as a future starter of a major P5 program. I don’t have a problem with the transfer portal but ND is replacing almost the whole OL as well as Skrownek and possibly McKinley. Might as well get everyone some experience together and rely on Williams and Tyree to carry the load again. I’d be fine with an 8-10 win season if it meant they were playing freshman and sophomores to set themselves up for the following 2-3 years.
The schedule next year isn’t horrible. I think 2022 is when they play both Clemson and OSU...

For some reason I thought ESPN had Wimbush rated lower. Don’t have + access anymore so I can’t verify but 247 has him slightly higher. Had completely forgotten about Gunner.

It sendS a bad Message to the QBS on campus, and is not good for recruIting IMO..For every Wilson, Burrow story out there, there are failures I prefer developing our own, youre just prolonging the inevitable, buying time..
Otherwise, I'd agree.
If Clark is not going to be ready, and Pyne is strictly a back up, and BK doesnt want to rush Buchner, then maybe then Id have to consider the portal for one yr..as last resort type of thing..
And why is it ok to use the portal for every other position?
this season was pretty good because we made the playoffs.
And why the QB position, more than any other that's easy, its the team leader, and the sport is now more QB centric than ever..If youre not going to give opportunity to the 3 QBs you brought in, youre going to pay a price eventually, unless you intend to live in the transfer portal..
There is a great example of developing your own QB, right in ND's past 1972, Ara installed Tom Clements as starting QB, went thru some growing pains going 8-3, including a 40-6 shellacking in the Orange Bowl; next yr, won the nat'l title..beating Bama 24-23..in Sugar Bowl with Clements as the QB..Finally, if you go outside, after you brought guys in, you could easily have team dissension..

With a chance to win IN 2016, Then left prematurely, when he wasnt ready for NFL..
why would Kizer come back after that?
have 7 or 8 opportunities.
he wouldnt lose his job on account of his injury Maybe that was a mistake on BK's part, but if IM right on that, Kizer should have been mature enough to handle it...And he won the job anyway, and was QB most of the way..As I said it ws KIzer who had ball in his hands late in those losses..
keep it close to the vest with guys like Rees, Zaire and Book
Parents of recruits are told this by other programs thats why Kelly has Buchner instead of Huard or Vandagriff
