Rumors down here in Texas are Aggies DC, and obviously formerly similar position coach with ND, does not like dealing with Jimbo Fisher and would like to be considered for the now open DC position back in South Bend. Its hard to believe given how he left and some of his comments but apparently he and Kelly still have a good relationship. It should be noted his contract is now up with Texas A&M. I personally don't see it happening and expect either a promotion from within or a serious look at Heacock from Iowa State or Freeman of Cincinnati. I think Freeman makes more sense given he is much younger (Heacock is 60) but either of these would be proven winners and good recruiters and would seemingly put us in good shape moving forward.

At a maximum, he gets what he agreed to before he left.

I don't fault him for leaving but he left on his own volition looking for greener grass or perhaps a better path to the big time. It wasn't about money. He had no ties to Jimbo.
Now ND is greener grass?

Pay him whatever it takes.

Probably the best possible option.

worried about.
which is what really made our university famous. I absolutely hate the "overly intellectual" take of our new faculty and administrators which never needed any adjustment since we have always been respected intellectually and had a high number of successful graduates.

I think they'll get over it, but admin wasn't happy.

I think it's a good indication that Kelly realizes this is his last push and he will need to start moving his chips in the middle. There are a lot of easier hires than Elko right now that Kelly would normally go with.
Should be interesting to monitor.
do nothing for a team looking for a playoff win
He was such a nonentity that I can't even remember his name.
I would not take Freeman. If you’re gonna take Heacock, it had better be with Campbell as HC
He'll do it again that rat fink. I think BK should find a grad assistant with no resume as a DC and hire him. ND is the perfect training ground for young wannabe coaches. Why coach at the FCS or MAC level when you can get a "go" card straight to the top.
