God, this bourbon tastes good.
Almost as good my #1 2021 recruiting class. Rivals said it's the best class that they have ever seen since they started keeping track in 2002: 17 of the top 100 and 7 5 stars.
Shit, my plantation has never been stronger. What I want to do, what I need to do, is to have an undefeated, unscored upon team next year. Yeah, I like that idea. Hahaha!
Pretty good for a Catholic Croatian boy from West Virginia. " Almost heaven, West Virginia..." Shit, almost heaven, my ass. It might be for Jimbo Fisher, but not for me. I'm living large in Alabama now, the Heart of Dixie.
Damn, this bourbon is good.
It's funny how we Catholic coaches have brought glory to the South. Think about it: Urbie at Florida; Valvano at NC St.; Pitino at Kentucky and Louisville; Calipari at Kentucky; Rat Face at Duke; the Cajun Caveman at LSU; and yours truly at Bama.
Didn't the South always hate Catholics? The KKK boys and all of that? Hey, but they love us if we bring them glory. Hahaha!
I know that deep down these Bama fans hate me, though. A Catholic. No houndstooth hat. No deep Southern drawl. God, I can't bear it! Rosebud!
Anyway, some people think that a Catholic boy like me should have been bringing glory to a place like Notre Dame. After all, they used to be Alabama.
Just think about it: in the late 40s, ND won NCs in 3 out of 4 years. If there were a 2 point conversion then, and they made it, they could have beaten USC 15-14 in 1948, instead of tying them 14-14, late in the 4th quarter. Then, they would have had 4 straight NCs!
So what went wrong?
The collars became embarrassed at their success and decided to de-emphasize football and they cut scholarships. I guess they didn't want to be seen as a football factory. Hahaha, that's too funny! We sure don't have that problem at Bama.
Years later, ND even had some guy named Monk who wanted to become an " aspirational peer " of the Ivy League and for ND to become the " Catholic Princeton."
You can't make this shit up.
So, it's easy to see why Urbie and I wouldn't dream of coaching at ND. It's kind of sad, though, to see the demise of such a great legacy and a Catholic icon.
Oh, I better have another bourbon. I'm starting to get nostalgic and sentimental. No time for that. I've got to get back to work in the morning.
Roll Tide!!!
I am an Irish-Croat Catholic who grew up in the South -- semi-rural NC is not Deep South, but still. I had close friends who live in big houses and were just from the nicest families tell me I was going to hell unless I became a Christian. I mean, we practically invented the thing (okay, Eastern Orthodox, Coptics, and Armenians are a little older, but still). Now an adult with kids, I still hear comments. I find it funny, but sad.
I do think Nick is beloved in Alabama even as a non-Christian papist semi-Yankee (see above). They view him as "one of the good ones."
Better get your kids started pronto
