Really good football and famous academics. Too bad for them that Chicago high school fb talent is not quite what it used to be. Or Chicago itself, come to think of it.
Same for South Carolina. Recruits are a pathway to titles and elite facilities should bring in the recruits. No more excuses for A&M and Texas. They have the money boosters, the recruiting area, the staffs of both programs are in place and the elite facilities. Top Ten facilities should do it. Who knew a foosball table in the players lounge area could win you a conference title. Of course I'm being facetious. These new high tech facilities are more than an attraction for recruits. It helps all the programs within the university I assume, not just football. Off season workouts in these places are where championships begin.

His dad sent me images of their facilities when they went to visit. They're unbelievable, and UGA is building a T&F powerhouse.
One of the assistant ADs told my inlaws that GA, with their facility upgrades, not only is attempting to out do Saban, they're going to out do Oregon. It's outta control, a lot of unis will go bankrupt due to their athletics delusions...

imagine what these places are like.
High tech stuff for an inner city HS at the time. It was mandatory to play two sports if you wanted to play football. I wonder how far back lifting, off season workouts, and a training table goes back in college football?
This was back in the 80s. He deliberately made the facilities dingy and spartan. If it rained, he had us outside doing pull-ups, push-ups, dips, rope climbing, and hauling sandbags 100 yards. He'd find a steepSan Francisco hill and had us sprint up that fuckin thing until we collapsed. He told us that as long as he was our S&C coach, we would never be physically beaten, it would only be a question of preparation. The only upgrade we had were semi warm showers. Looking back, it was an excellent life preparation..

The Catholic program has a dingy classroom converted to a weight room with old weights and training equipment. The locker room would make anyone with claustrophobia run for their lives. The very large public HS program has the finest facilities, special film rooms, meeting rooms, huge spacious locker rooms, and a large training room, all located under the stadium. The stadium itself is not your typical HS stadium. This one has turf, a jumbo, and would make most D3 programs envious. Anyway, these two schools are unlikely rivals given the student body numbers. You would think the public program would dominate the series but that is not the case. In fact, both schools, very large and small has both sent players to ND on full ride football schollies. Player development and coaching plays a big part. No matter the facilities, you still have to block and tackle.
