1989 USC vs Notre Dame, where Todd Marniovich came close to pulling off an upset against us, on our home territory.
I think that had he not pissed off Kowalkowski and Alm with his taunting, that he very well could have pulled it off.
Anyways, seeing him getting utterly crushed by Kowalkowski at the end should bring a nice smile to everyone here. He actually got lucky on that last play, since had he been a quarter of a second later throwing that ball, he would have been clobbered again, and probably even harder since Kowalkowski had a free path towards him.
Link: Todd Marinovich gets his "just desserts."
ND hadn't lost a game since 1987, and that puke and his band of thugs made for a fun rivalry game on a perfect autumn day.

That seems like a hard pass from the start.

Aside from the badass aesthetic, with targeting rules these days they would assist in leading with the shoulder.
If they're too heavy, make them out of carbon fiber.

Those defenses from that era where tough, physical, and down right nasty! If you watch/remember the Virginia game that year; those dudes could react!
My recollection is TM went 33 for 55, Trojans UP 17-7 AT THE HALF When ND scored late to take the lead, My recollection is TM drove the TRojans to ND 7 where 4 passes fell incomplete..

Larry Smith looked completely defeated. His face said it all.
brought back ND from deficits all day

With his f'ed up upbringing and douchebag father, it's not surprising that he fell to addiction.
Of course, USC being USC, they did him no favors, either, with no guard rails or structure, looking the other way while he lived a rockstar lifestyle.
Last I knew he was stable....hope so.
His dad is a living legend in Orange County on how not to be a dad.
