ability to read a defense, see where the ball needs to go and get them the ball accurately and on time will let the dynamic playmakers make plays. If they let him get up under center, I think it might help the run game to give the backs a bit of a head start to hit the line and I think he will effectively utilize play action with a strong running game. His deep ball has an altogether different trajectory than Book's and I think it will be effective and feared if Lenzy, Austin and company can stay healthy. And he has functional speed to scramble for 10 yards if the D doesn't respect it. I think he's going to do really well. I think we'd have been way better off with him than Book in the last two games against Clemson and Alabama. They made Book a pocket QB and he couldn't handle it. Coan would have done better in that situation. And for that reason, I think if we make it back to the playoffs, I think he'll do fine.
All that said, I'd love a limited package of plays for Buchner to run out of the pistol. Give the D something to prepare for and let him be an x-factor and get him ready and comfortable for next season.

more accurate as well. Plus, he doesn’t bail/tuck and run at the first sign of pressure. He checks down instead. I think he was first in check downs for the 2019 season, and having watched him quite a bit, I can see why it will be frustrating for some. It does feel like he leaves plays on the field - similarly to Book. At the same time, at least he’s somewhat giving his playmakers a chance to make a play.
All this is in the context of him being Wisconsin’s QB. They don’t recruit the same type of athlete that ND does at WR/TE so he may very well check down less and throw downfield more given better WR/TEs. We’ll see. I don’t think he can lead a team to an NC - especially with an 80% new Oline- but I’m guardedly optimistic that the offense will open up a little more than it was with Book.

Book had a lot of issues that held him back.

of overlooking Book’s feet. The lad was quite elusive. I’m recalling the pass in the NC game scrambling after the bad snap hitting Williams in the flat for the score.
Where I believe Book struggled was to see receivers uncover when the pass blocking broke down.
Very few QBs can elude the rush and keep the eyes downfield. It helps to be taller/bigger as well :).
