Of course it is early…what are thoughts on rankings…should best “eye test” teams be ranked above most deserving or most deserving ranked above best “eye test” teams?
ND has one loss to undefeated #2 team. Many above us have “worse” losses.

Playoff rankings are what matter. They take resume and eye test into account. At least it is supposed to.
eye test because Coan is not going to make us dynamic. His slowness has the effect of making the whole team appear slower.
Without Coan we lose to both Toledo and Va Tech.
He also played most of the Purdue victory you are now crowing so much about.
looks like he good be good for them and because of him and receiver Bell, they may be dangerous.

We don’t look like a dominant team…but we could win out.
Performance in college FB is so variable. One week Bama looks like they can beat anyone by 3TD…then they lose to A&M
Iowa #2. Then lose to Purdue.
Ohio State.
Oregon.
Etc.
Every year same thing. Hard to figure.
College football…the original reality TV!
Go Irish!
Do that and pollsters keep you higher even with a loss, get in dogfights like we do, and you drop.
I’d be open to seeing data, of course. ND opened the year at #9. ND has one loss and is now #13. Bama fell from #1 to #5 (now #4) with a loss. I think fans put way much more weight on margins of victory than pollsters. I remember after ND struggled with Toledo, but won — jackasses on this board said ND would fall to #20. Fanbrain doesn’t generally work well.

The rotating confusing QB situation has been working so well.
