Anyone with a football brain can see all the issues we have. It’s not just the offensive line it’s the RB s WR s defense,… leadership it’s everywhere.
Another problem is habits take 6-8 weeks to break.
We have a lot of talent which could mask the ooor preparation but these issues s aren’t gonna go away
Yes it’s poor execution but the preparation is creating the poor execution. It’s how we practice what we’re practicing and how it’s communicated.
I m concerned we’re gonna continue to get kids hurt.
It’s just terrible football .
Freeman's first two games were against legitimate top-5 teams, and ND still had a decent chance to win both of those games in the 4th quarter. Stood toe-to-toe till the very end.
Marshall appears to be a very good football team. No, not saying ND shouldn't have beaten them, but as someone pointed out, a 3-point win against Toledo vs. a 5-point loss to Marshall...which was worse? I would argue Toledo as I believe their 2021 team to be, minimum, 10 points worse than 2022 Marshall.
Finally, and I may start a thread about this, but I truly believe Drew Pyne to be the better quarterback, a significant game-day upgrade over Tyler Buchner. Performance in practice and physical talent are one thing; game performance and having the right intangibles are another.
Rees wasn't that guy. Should have let him walk to LSU and let Freeman pick his own OC.
Agree that this is on Swarbrick for putting the cart before the horse.
if you're going to hire a guy with no HC experience AND zero offensive background, then you need to spring for the absolute best OC money can buy who is available. Expecting Freeman (or anyone) to learn to be a HC on the job at ND and learn....offensive football at the same time is pretty far fetched.
coordinators as HC and underclassman as players and do just fine. Here you need at least ten years of head coaching to coach and 3 years of development to play. Perhaps though Freeman wasn’t the right choice for promotion. We shall see. I hope you end up being wrong but admit you may not.
Im with you!
I hope and pray that I'm wrong on this...I WANT Freeman to succeed so badly, I've honestly fallen for the guy and want it to work out, not only for ND but for him. With Kelly, I wanted him to work out only because it's what was best for ND, not because of regard for him.
I'm not calling for Freeman's head, as in fairness he needs more time because the light might click on and he might be fantastic, plus i like him.
If he ends up sucking and getting fired, I won't be happy about it like with the others.
But I have to be honest with what my eyes see 'right now', and call BS to those that say there's no way to tell he's in over his head. He might develop down the road into our next Rockne, and I'll happily get called a dumbass by everyone on the board, but right now presently it's painfully obvious that he is in over his head at the moment. That's what I see..and sadly this kind of on field performance is going to hurt him on the recruiting front.
I use to watch him on the sidelines last year and he would get fired up. Now, I’m just not seeing that. He seems almost too cool for school.
