This 4th and short, especially in the Red Zone, seems to be an uncreative issue. Can't have it. This offense needs TDs. We don't have the luxury of settling for FGs or losing the ball on downs. The plays that are set up won't work against a "D" that has more men in the box than we do and yet, Rees stubbornly tries to force the issue. Get creative or come up with something that will get some of these defenders out of the area if he insists on long developing running plays or sneaks right up the gut. I'm just a fan but I know what I see. Any suggestions?.
it's 4th and short. You're literally snapping the ball 5yds away from the 1yd you need. QB sneaks and FB dives get you that yard 8 out of 10 times and I'm being conservative. Change that first then get creative out of that package.
Seriously... The more Tommy Rees keeps calling those slowly developing draw plays out of the shotgun on 4th and 1, the more it makes me convinced that he's scared to death to defy the Brian Kelly school of thought.
A straight run from under center, as you well stated, is going to get you that yard or two, especially with a powerful runner the likes of Estime. A QB sneak will almost always get you that one yard you need. I honestly don't know why Rees is so afraid to call either play except for the above.

I say semi bad because the play was a run play (good), but was just bland up the middle which they were overplaying.
Rees did not call for a corner fade as Kelly did so many times (even in a hurricane). You should credit him for this game. It was a good performance on his part.
Every opportunity is crucial. Fourth and an inch at Carolina 25. No gain. No points. Third and Five at BYU 8. FG. Three points. Fourth and one at BYU 4. No gain. No points. Third and three at BYU 3. Pass to Mayer netted a yard because the whole stadium had their eye on Michael. FG. Three points. That's four opportunities that I can recall that netted six points. You OK with these "semi bad" calls? Are we good enough to get by with six points in these short yardage Red Zone opportunities? Especially as the season progresses and we see who's down the road? That's something the previous regime might say at his presser.

Will mean against USC and Clemson. Of course we saw what it meant against Marshall but that doesn’t mean much to some on this board.

t makes absolutely no sense. You should have them on a side sheet and call it without blinking or questioning. If you don't have a set of these plays I question the ability of the play caller. Running it up the center's ass has proven not to work for 12 years now.
Get under center and either sneak it. Pretty simple pick left or right of center and running back can push.
Or still get under center and let the running back get some steam running hand it to him and he can dive in.
Handing the ball off to a running back standing still in a shotgun from the 1 yard line put you 5 yards back I never understood the sense of that
