Not surprising, considering that the younger players have passed by him on the depth chart.
Since he only played in 2 games in 2018, and can take the 2020 COVID exemption, he could theoretically have 2 years of eligibility elsewhere, but it's looking like he'll have just one.

Usually there is a 5-year clock for athletes to play 4 years. Student-athletes whose 2020-2021 season was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic get 6 years to compete in 4 full seasons of their sport in college. Since he enrolled in 2018, his last year of eligibility is 2023.
Good luck to him. He always seemed on the brink of being a contributor but never was able to beat out the guys in front of him for whatever reason.

He'll go down in history as being part of a rich tradition, and after football is over, he'll have excellent resources using ND's career placement center.
I understand his wanting to get playing time, and don't begrudge him in any way, shape, or form.
