Interesting Drew Pyne's NCAA QB rating is currently identical to that of Bryce Young's, but that's another topic.
We know Pyne goes stretches where he struggles mightily. Most people here do not believe he has any chance to become an elite QB. And yet, Rivals rated him 4 stars and the 7th best drop back passer in his class. If they got it wrong, how and why did they get it wrong?

I also read that his mom prepared hype tapes about him in 8th grade that generated big program interest

I didn't know that.
Based solely on the article, he should be a great college QB.

Check all the boxes on paper and look the part while struggling to execute.
Part of this is on the player himself and part of it is on the coaching.
Projecting 17-18 year old boys future athletic accomplishments is an in exact science.

Well for starters its one of the weakest QB classes over the last decade and for two Pyne was thought to be a 5* guy as a Soph but never really progressed alot from then and physically never grew much or put in much weight, so Rivals put him at 4* and others around 3.5 which is probably accurate. If you notice everyone in front of him is at least 6'3" and about 200lbbs. As a Soph he looked very good, albeit more 4* than 5* to me but pretty good as a Junior then as a Senior he regressed so he looked more like a guy right between 3*-4* but closer to 3*.
