He will be missed. Seems like a lateral move.

I'm sure there's great options out there. Freeman has done a good job so far with assistants. As a former LB himself, he'll figure out the right fit.

also students in a grad program. I don't believe it's like a volunteer position. Could be wrong...
Laurinaitis was an essentially an assistant to the LB coach. By being enrolled in grad school and hired as a Grad assistant, he is allowed to coach on the field in practices. Furthermore, he is not counted against the maximum number of assistant coaches a program is allowed.
Hiring an established coach like Maurice Crum would require the removal of one of the other position coaches.

He's ND's version of Laurinaitis.
Then tell him to recruit Hawaii and the Polynesian Bowl.

I doubt he would have had much of an impact in one year.

Columbus Ohio area today. He is 99% sure this new virus accidentally escaped from a lab at the University of Notre Dame. The Vaccine should be out by Labor Day. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

What next, criticize Bryant Young for only staying here one year as a GA?
I wish "Little Animal" the best. He's a good guy, and a heck of a hard worker.
He's a grad assistant. GAs are short term by their nature. The opportunity opened to coach at his Alma Mater, and under a different system. Freeman probably told him to take the job.

Grad assistants are generally just beginning their coaching career, and want to be exposed to different systems and learn coaching styles from different coaches.

Once Al Golden moves on to another head coaching position, the LB coaching job will be open. Maybe Laurinaitis can return with more coaching experience.
My only question is how many years is he going to be a grad student. Is he getting a doctorate? He should be about done with a masters.
