He played for the Irish. He coached for the Irish. He worked hard and he earned the opportunity to get a better job. Good for him.
If we are going to take shots at anyone, we should be taking them at a a second class administrative department.

He said he wanted to win a title at ND. He didn't win a title at ND. He did give it a whole year though. That was an alum talking to his players. Does anyone think he'll return as a conquering hero? I would have loved to hear his going away talk to the Irish players before he left. That had to be a doozy.

Rees is going to run Saban’s offense.
Rees was a mediocre QB with Tulsa qualities.
Rees was a mediocre OC.
I hope he never returns to ND in a coaching capacity.

It’s Saban’s offense. Don’t think for a minute Rees was brought in to “improve” it.
offensive style is good for his team right now. He was Saban's choice.
Fuck Alabama. I have zero opinion on what Rees leaving does for ND or Alabama.
I want this to be a wake up call for the Athletic department. They are failing to live up to the standards they set for the students. We can't promote the gold standard and a have a silver medal administration.

What is the message that the Athletic Dept needs to learn from this?
We can excuse Rees' departure because Alabama is a better job.
We can excuse Kelly's departure because his time was up.
We can excuse Elston's departure because he was a Michigan man.
We can excuse Elko's departure because he got paid.
Alford left to coach with Utb and stayed 8 years.
This shit doesn't happen at tier one schools. Coaches get promoted or they get fired. They don't uproot their families to coach the DL at a peer.
I don't know the solution, but if someone isn't reviewing the talent acquisition and retention process, we should all just appreciate the Mickens farewell tour this year.
The Elko and Elston departures were the strangest ones to me. Elston especially, who continuously expressed his love for ND and the virtues of providing a stable home environment for his daughters.
Maybe Freeman really wanted Washington? Who knows. I can’t but help think that one day we’ll learn ND didn’t put up a huge fight to retain Rees.
But your point is taken.
