This, as much as anything may push us into a conference….why should anyone schedule a tough game that isn’t required on their conference schedule? The CFP
does not punish the big 2 conferences for doing it.
Avoid the consequences of early season mistakes, stay healthy, play 8 or 9 scrimmages before one good team to get into playoffs at the end of the year.
Alabama started it, Georgia did it this year too but had the SEC games at least. Now Michigan has copied it.
I doubt the 12 team playoff will alleviate the problem - the motivation will still be there.
Texas and USC at home, Washington on the road. With the finale at OSU, they will not skate through next year quite like this one, I’m guessing.

ND doesn't need to join a conference for that.
FSU, A + M, USC. Possibly Louisville too. Not a murderer’s row, for sure, but maybe not a cakewalk either.
I can see those teams ranked in the preseason...and unranked at the end.
It's an easy schedule, and if Freeman can't make the playoff with it he's probably not the answer.

Stop with the new coach bullshit
for the new TAM coach builds, they will end up there too.

Because they are good programs perennially that they wanted to avoid, and last year does not equate to next year.
Let’s not pretend what you are…..a Michigan fan posting on an ND board. Sad.

I was just on a site that had only one of them and has us ranked 15th. You can find any answer you want but seriously? A six loss A&M team? It’s amazing how poorly many of our so called “tough” opponents turned out in 2023. USC being at the top of the list.
issue.
Nobody will schedule any good games….why do it?
And if teams did schedule tough games in the past, they can simply pay to opt out of them as Michigan did with both UCLA and Arkansas.

They played three ranked teams. We played four ranked teams. Why rag on them? They finished with a total of five ranked teams including the #4 and #2 teams.
Oh yeah, they beat all of them. We lost to the only good teams we played
Stop being so petty and pathetic.
them credit for that, even with the strong dislike I have for them.
…..avoid any hard games that you can. In UM’s case, they even paid to get out of the only games with a pulse on their nonconference schedule (UCLA and Arkansas).
Next years Conference imposed schedule (after infusion of better teams) was beyond their control to dilute. It also has nothing to do with this year’s schedule which was a joke - up until facing OSU in the last game of the regular season. The CFP schedule has nothing to do with this either as it is also involuntary, and since qualifying for it was the goal of UM’s cream puffery.
My question is valid. With the CFP not penalizing weak schedules, why would any team schedule a hard game. And by extension for ND, why would any team be scheduling us anymore? (This is the pertinent point). I believe this will push us toward a conference.
They played three ranked teams and we played four
They beat all their ranked opponents and we lost to most of ours
Has nothing to do with liking or defending Michigan
Has all to do with fucking reality.
I find the hatred of Michigan childish and sophomoric. I live in the south but haven’t all my life. I respect the quality of football played in the SEC; it is second to none and has been for a long long time. Just because I live in Georgia I don’t hate them. Why should I? What the fuck does it prove other than childish behavior indicative of penis envy on your part. Michigan is a very good football team. Deal with it. We haven’t won a championship for 35 years. It’s just a simple fact that I don’t lose a minute of sleep over.
a shit schedule but 3 out of their last four games they beat an undefeated OSU at the time, one loss Alabama and last night an undefeated Washington. I hate Michigan with a passion but that's pretty impressive.
UM had not played a team in the top 100 in offense at the time of their game until they played their last game against OSU. And 7 of the games were at home.
“But Iowa is really good!”
Back to my point….I am right. The UM Model for winning…avoiding good teams, cheating wherever able, and cheating in recruiting restricts will be adopted by all other unethical schools now.
Woodstock is not a UM troll, you know it, he's just reasonable, and right now you don't want to be reasonable.
His point stands, they won all their games, Notre Dame didn't. All of the bitching about it is just sour grapes at this point.
I don't like how they did it, I don't like that the committee basically said we don't care that they were cheating. There was a lot to not like this year, and that includes the 3 losses that Notre Dame had that kept them from getting into the playoff.
It’s sad. I respect him on the Open but he’s an odd duck here with his incredible hatred. Maybe a Michigan guy slept with his wife?? And I love how he is adamant how right he is.
After last night, he should move.
So what?
State on my dislike list also. It is fun to have a team to cheer for strongly and fun sometimes to dislike strongly another team because of them being competition in recruiting and in attempting year after year of trying to get into the playoffs. Nothing is personal it is because we love our own team.

Why would I hate them or any other school? Why do you care so much when you didn’t even go to Notre Dame? That part I don’t get. It’s mind-boggling.
I’ve been a fan of the Irish my whole life. You don’t have to go to ND to be a fan, yes? Like Baron, I’m from Michigan. Michigan and Notre Dame don’t mix.
It’s not about hating the school, it’s about hating the football program. That has to do with the history of the rivalry. Read up on it and you’ll understand.
Don’t pull the alum card on me. You know better than that.
hope lose. Hometown fans are tough and for some reason, home town fans dislike Notre Dame strongly. The only teams I ever want Michigan to beat are Penn State and though Miami is not hometown they are my other choice because of their historically dirty play.
Sorry I just don’t get it but that’s me. And now he wants to call me a Michigan troll. What a joke. So just because I don’t hate a team, respect what they just accomplished…I’m a troll.
I know he’s older but he acts like a 15 year old.
I respect you for your service to our country. I guess I find it more odd how many people on here went to another university yet they like Notre Dame. Just seems odd. Sorry.
America's team. Phil Pozderac once said to me in conversation that he played for both of America's teams. Kansas City may be replacing Dallas because of Mahomes, but no one in college will replace us. Dallas is hated by many fans also and really was when they clearly occupied the position of America's team.
You’re a good man. As you know, ND is special. Alums and subway alums understand that. Some take rivalries more seriously than others. Michigan is one that will always be a blood feud to me.

They deserved it. Very solid play. And well coached.
and he calls enough plays that are off kilter to keep his opponents off balance. He did blow the Super Bowl against his brother one year though.
But for any doubters out there, he proved it this yr.
