Bama is nothing special without Nick - am I wrong?

They are a terrible state and school supported by an amazing coach. Yes, they have no academic standards and have name cachet, but unless they get a truly excellent coach, what is bringing the 5 stars there vs. schools (such as Georgia) with a better coach and more $, etc? May they rot in oblivion for decades....

Bama is one of the Blue Bloods of college football..if you put a high level coach there

they will have great success just like they will at any of the Blue Bloods.

But if you put a mediocre HC there, they'll do OK but not great.

Let’s see if they get Lanning as HC. Nick had 6 NC at Bama and a career winning percentage of 80%.

Didn’t Lou say something to the fact that you never want to follow a hero (winner or?)

I think Lanning would fail at Alabama.

You never want to follow a legend. You want to follow the guy who followed a legend.

Saban did a good job of graduating his players

He graduated 92% of his Black players this year, and they are required to go to class.

Given, they're probably taking many a powderpuff class, but they still do attend.

Also, a University of Alabama degree isn't frowned upon. It's a respected institution, and produces many excellent graduates who go on to become quite productive in society.

Regarding who replaces Nick Saban... Currently, most places are speculating that it's either Dabo Swinney, Mike Norvell, Steve Sarkisian, or Dan Lanning, with all of them except for Norvell being under Saban at one time or another. Lane Kiffin was also mentioned here and there.

At this point, Alabama can take its time and choose wisely. There's an obscene amount of talent on the roster, and even the second stringers could be starters for almost any other Power 5 program. Even if the new guy isn't quite as good as the greatest of all time (Saban), he'll have plenty to work with like Ryan Day did at tOSU.

That’s a prestige job with a roster loaded with (65) 4 and 5 stars.
