I don't blame him one bit. If someone wants to pay you $30M at age 41 while you stink it up (who ever could have seen that coming?), you take that deal every day. But he had no business taking at bats away from someone else.
As if we needed another reminder - long term deals for aging sluggers NEVER end well. Ask the Tigers - including this year, they're still on the hook through 2023 for $94M to fatass Miguel Cabrera. He's currently batting .098.
