An update of their user policies set to go into effect on Nov 3 contained this nugget, a $2,500 fine for “sending, posting, or publication of any messages, content, or materials promoting misinformation”.
After igniting a firestorm, they stated that the policy was published in error. Of course, an army of lawyers vets these things before publication, so people are fairly skeptical about the explanation.
The stock market proceeded to fine PayPal 6% of its market cap for being woke morons.

They were clearly trying to see what they could get away with. You have to admire the brazenness with which they decided to float a trial balloon to see if they could get away with stealing thousands of dollars from people at their own personal discretion.
Greed aside, I'm just not sure why any idiot on their legal team would have signed off on that. They have to know that this can't be legal, and that they'd be risking huge lawsuits and penalties for this.
