I want to live there. Visited there for work about 10 years ago, thought it was the most incredible place. Huge expat community, vibrant clean city, terrific weather, no crime.
Biggest downside is that the country is puritanical in its cannabis laws, and smoking weed there can really get you in bigtime trouble. So I'd have to cut back in a big way. I could do it, but I'd miss it.
Mrs Tufnel and I are empty nesters and can work pretty much anywhere. We both work.
Am I crazy? Who knows anything about living in Singapore?
Alternatively, I keep hearing so many great things about Costa Rica.
Help me, oh knowledgable UHND board. As is widely known, the expertise (which is 95% bullshit) of the members on this board is unparalleled.
They take drug use very seriously. Doesn't like the right place for you.
Personally, I've decided the US is good for me. But, if I were to relocate for a couple of years, it would likely be to Spain or Italy.
Costa Rica does have some bad crime issues. Expats sometimes don't last there. Do some research.
Japan is the safest Asian country...and a lot cooler than Singapore. I'm not sure I could live near the Equator, so Singapore always seemed a bad option for me.
Visited twice in 1983 and 1984 in the service on WestPac deployments.
Hash House Harrier Run
New Zealand Navy Officer’s Club (near where we moored)
Throwing back pints at the Long Bar, while the nearby US Consulate office banged out US passports for several young lieutenants, all preoccupied with Ludlum’s Jason Bourne novels. Hence, the need for a passport to become a “player.”
It was a different country back then, finding their economic mojo.
Live where you wish. Spend a month.
We much prefer Europe.
probably a good thing; would have been just another divorce.
I was a Harrier during my year in S Korea.
In Philly. Pure craziness.
One course went through a train tunnel that was supposedly out of use. It wasn't. I was running along the track trying to get a freight train to stop. It finally did about a third of the way down the tunnel. All the crazy HHHers thought we arranged it to enhance the experience, LOL.

Singapore is highly civilized country. People are well-dressed and well-behaved. Government really works for it's people, cares about its people. Of course it's a rich country. But all these are only part of our life. If you try, I bet you won't last for 2 years to live there.
If I had to move to a country where English is not the primary language, I'd choose there.
Portugal is cool also and allows easy access to Europe.

definitely "try" before "buy"...

nightlife. Can’t think of a reason not to live there. But forget football, news and anything you would miss. Like living on a sailboat. But it’s very special. Been there many times but it’s a 20 hour flight from the US.
small wrapper on the ground.
It's been a while but I've been there a bunch.
Isn't it expensive as hell or is that not a factor?
Laws....they enforce them so yeah no weed.
Yes, very big Expat community.
I personally could not live there and I love Asia, lived in Japan twice and the Philippines, spent a lot of time in Thailand.
If money isn't an issue why not Mauritius, what an incredible place.
