Tough sledding ahead for her assuming they don't "lose" her on what could be a journey of weeks on trucks or trains just to arrive in hell.
"Odin den iz zhizni Ivana Denisovicha" for those who would like a little peek at her future.

I do not like her. She beat ND in the title game and she disrespected our national anthem.
Her sentence is absurd, under any conditions.
For a cannabis vape! Makes me want to light up and ponder things.

for her welfare as a political prisoner.
Not sure it’s as funny as you think.

She broke a law that most people know and have to worry about.
Because she did not get any slack cut due to her celebrity does not make her a political prisoner nor does the fact that the law is perceived as draconian by many in the US.
By every definition, she broke a law and is not a political prisoner. the fact that the law sucks is irrelevant to the definition of a political prisoner.

She’d have been arrested if she were for other countries for having cannabis as well. The Russians have a stick up,their ass about it, and airlines even warn travelers about it.
Word came down from the Kremlin to give her the max sentence. Why? Politics.
Therefore, she is a political prisoner.
Words do indeed have meaning.
You just fundamentally don’t give a hit about her because you think she’s on the other side of your perpetual, infantile culture wars.
And it’s frankly repulsive.
She is just a kid. It’s horrible, and I would free her in a second. I was merely arguing your definition as you were previously with mine.
But I do have a serious question…
Is this a case of Griner getting the book thrown at her or is it a matter of Griner not getting the special treatment usually afforded to the rich and famous (in this case a gay, BLM pro athlete with political significance because of this)?
Are other non famous Americans getting easier sentences for this? Or is Griner getting stuck in with the rest of the crowd? Aren’t all Americans getting the stiffest sentences right now?
I’m asking. If you don’t know for sure, just say so.
Regarding definitions:
Political prisoner: someone who is imprisoned, detained, or otherwise isolated for their involvement in a political activity.
Had Griner been arrested for disrespecting the National anthem….that would make her a political prisoner.
She is unjustly held, but she is not a political prisoner. She committed a crime in Russia, stupid as the law is. It simply does not meet def for a political prisoner.
Can care less. This whole drama post about the cultural war being repulsive is a joke. She has proven herself to be a cultural warrior and I’m just playing by her rules. I’m sure the drama queen wasn’t repulsed by her actions while she was in the states. He probably agreed with her actions.
She was in a foreign country and got busted. You have to be smarter than that but obviously she isn’t. She hates our country but this would never happened to her here. I’m sure she would give anything to be back in the country she hated right about now. I don’t care if she rots in that jail cell and never sees the country she hates ever again.

history and the sacrifices those before them made to give them the best place to live in the world and all they do is complain and show what assholes they are. So she can rot over there. Now she’s seeing what it’s like to be in a truly bad country.
Jack Posobiec was busted for this in Russia and was having “the book thrown at them”. How many of our over dramatic Liberals would be screaming to get them out or how they are “political prisoner”? None of them is the correct answer. But that’s ok in their eyes. They would probably deserve it because they aren’t on their side. Me, I would feel the same exact way I do about her. Own your decisions and choices and be smart enough to not do stupid shit in a country that hates America.

conservative deserved it and how that situation is always “different” compared to when it happens to their side.

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time. I think I read that on here.

She hates America so she can enjoy Russia. Maybe kneel for their anthem.

Political or not, Mr. Trump or Mr. Biden, one got immediate action the other not so much. As I recall Mr. Trump also got three prisoners home from North Korea. There are three other Americans being held by Russia and I didn't see any mention of them in the article. Now she, her wife and others claim her retention is "political," are not the others political prisoners or just her? And just what is the category for not being political?
Since 2020 she has disrespected our national anthem so on the bright side she won't have to listen to it while she is in Siberia.
BTW, Putin not only wants Viktor Bout, he wants Germany to release an unnamed prisoner as well. Meanwhile Biden says that he will not meet Putin at the upcoming G-20 unless it is to talk about Griner. So there you have it, in the middle of a war, Biden will only meet with Putin to discuss Briner.
