Did everybody mask up for Thanksgiving? Saw some tourist maskers at the gift shop yesterday....

....black cloth masks (most fashionable look), were annoyed that people didn't clear the aisles for them that they wanted to go down, a group of about five, all between ages of 17 and 40 so very unlikely to have health issues unless the hospital ward had a field trip,
all from the big city visiting (CHI).

None of us said anything, but everyone also went about our lives as we normally would and silently rolled our eyes.

Such masking by the libs is nothing more than virtue signalling. If they were actually concerned about getting or giving an infection, then wtf were they out and about at a gift shop?!

I miss the days when libs were satisfied to simply stick a "coexist" bumper sticker on their Prius in order to smug signal.

It could be virtue signaling. They could have someone in the family they are worried about getting s

We have a lot of mental health issues in this country and I'm sure a sunset of people that are still masking fall into that category. There are parents that are imposing those issues on their kids. I feel bad for those people.

There are multiple out of town (big city) groups & all doing the same thing….

…..I am quite sure they don’t all have immunocompromised people at home, but if they did, wearing a mask in a nonessential crowded public setting is not what is recommended to avoid bringing something home. Instead, NOT GOING OUT INTO THE NONESSENTIAL setting is recommended. The mask is pure placebo.

You see how they have you thinking? You are thinking that A homemade, reused, cotton mask is actually preventing something here……it is not. And they are trying to use the red herring argument that is ultra rare, yet being used to justify widespread behavior (like the rape argument for justifying the 99% of no rape abortions). Even so, the masks used in my OP would not help the immunocompromised person at home.

Don’t be stupid like them. I expect more.

Here is the famous "MIT Report" that Baron provided way back when...apparently, he failed to read

the opening 'Abstract' which closed with this statement...(Page 1)

---------------------------
"Case studies are presented for classrooms and nursing homes, and a spreadsheet and online app are provided to facilitate use of our guideline. Implications for contact tracing and quarantining are considered, and appropriate caveats enumerated. Particular consideration is given to respiratory jets, which may substantially elevate risk WHEN FACE MASKS ARE NOT WORN." (emphasis mine)
---------------------------
Here's another...from the body of the report...(Page 5)
--------------------------
"Since the rate of inhalation of contagion depends on the volume flux of both the exhalation of the infected individual and the inhalation of the susceptible person, the risk of infection increases as Qb2. Likewise, masks worn by both infected and susceptible persons will reduce the risk of transmission by a factor pm2 , a dramatic effect given that pm ≤ 0.1 for MODERATELY HIGH QUALITY MASKS (74, 75)." (emphasis mine)
-------------------------
And finally, this one...(Page 8)
------------------------
"In both examples, the benefit of face masks is immediately apparent, since the CET limit is enhanced by a factor p−2, the
inverse square of the mask penetration factor. Standard surgical masks are characterized by pm = 1 to 5% (73, 74), and so allow the CET to be extended by 400 to 10,000 times. EVEN CLOTH FACE COVERINGS WOULD EXTEND THE CET LIMIT BY 6 TO 100 TIMES for hybrid fabrics (pm = 10 to 40%) or 1.5 to 6 times for single-layer fabrics (pm = 40 to 80%) (75). Our inference of the efficacy of face masks in mitigating airborne transmission is roughly consistent with studies showing the benefits of mask use on COVID-19 transmission at the scales of both cities and countries (22, 33, 83)" (emphasis mine)
-----------------------

So...Baron's own contribution to this topic shows him to be totally wrong about the value of face masks usage....'THEY WORK'...and now that KN95 masks are readily available, the medical community (except for Baron) is strongly recommending them.

Don't be stupid like Baron...use those face masks...like the medical "Pros" do.

I can't wait to hear you tell us again how the Biden and his son stole the 2020 election. It's always
a wonderful yarn that you tell. That is, you and all the dumbass MAGAites.

It's one of the things the entire world (and most of the rest of the US) hates about New Yorkers - geocentric, egocentric, and ignorant. A bad combination of traits. Perhaps it is necessary to convince yourselves that living among rats, cement, and human excrement is actually desirable.
But know that you are visitors. You may be an idiot and wear a black cloth mask to signal, but do not expect others to participate in your silliness at your whim.

And I love how you victimize yourself! A silent eyeroll while politely saying nothing is "ridicule" in your mind. Thank you for the insight...I will be adding this to my Rules of Liberalism which is filling out quite nicely. It should be made available for viewing before Christmas.....but you can't let the tiger out of it's cage until it has been tamed, you know.

You do hit on something else here that's particularly obnoxious in your first paragraph.

I shared an anecdote some time ago about an obnoxious husband from the Twin Cities who asked me at my summer gig four years ago why we leave a donation jar out in the open, unguarded. I just rolled my eyes and did the silent laugh at the time. Four years later, my response would be made audible if that were to happen again: "Because we don't behave like that around here." Curiously, the enlightened and sophisticated have much lower expectations in this regard.

No way they had immunocompromised people at home.

No sir. They were obviously enemy soldiers in your never-ending culture war. Hang Fauci!

Immunocompromised at home. It has nothing to do with them being overly dramatic and being scared of everything. But they probably got the shot and are boosted but yet still terrified. They “trust the science”, right?

I identify as the poster with the most suspensions in UHND history.

nonsensical behavior on the rest of us. It was YOU who shut down any common sense scientific debate during COVID.

Rest assured that we are not you. But also rest assured that when you feel uneasy wearing your mask when nobody else is, you are correct in assuming that it does look stupid, it IS taken as virtue signalling, and you will NOT be allowed change the lives of those around you who choose not to be stupid.
