Is this how most people feel, most of the time? I hate it.

I do this 4 or 5 times a year and have been for 5 years now. Then when it's done, stay on a decent diet especially No Fast-food.
I'm about to turn 61 and am in good shape but it's work. I'm not doing anything crazy like triathlons but every day in the gym and or exercise like a 5 mile walk.
If you want your energy up? Exercise and eat decent but NO FAST FOOD....PERIOD.
There is the obvious benefit of weight loss, but it also stimulates autophagy and improves insulin resistance. If you're able to do in long enough you experience increased gh and stem cell production.
There are also fast mimicking diets, that are able to replicate the benefits of water fasting. Valter Longo created the original that allows 2-3 medium avocados per day. This keeps your calories to less than 500/day, but avocados have the proper macronutritional profile to keep your insulin levels from spiking and somehow don't impact autophagy.
I nerd out about this stuff and nobody actually ever cares, but if you are ever interested in trying a water fast, the protocol I use to prepare for the fast makes it much easier.
eat one meal a day (OMAD). I focus on protein and whole foods. Get most of my carbs from fresh veggies. I tell my wife, is it has more than one ingredient don't eat it..lol.
Thomas DeLauer has been recently citing research showing that, like with exercise, our body acclimates to caloric restriction and eating times and we start to lose maximum benefit. He's been recommending periods of IF, but then switching up to something like a 5:2 where you restrict calories by about 700, twice a week.
a bit as well. Always hydrate! I do drink alcohol, but only on occasion and usually during ND games..lol
I do this regime to clean my gut out.
Obviously you will lose weight I normally drop 5 to 8 lbs but again, it's to clean myself out.
The ingredients clean your intestinal wall and it's amazing.

Dehydration is a problem when you restrict your diet to such a limited ingredient list because you aren't getting the same amount of electrolytes.

But we need to cut out the soup entirely. Instead of soup, just put water in the pot, and eat that for 4 days.

I guarantee you that a 4 day water fast is easier than eating that soup for 4 days. With the soup, you're never going to get into ketosis, but you will still get the insulin and grelin spikes that will make you feel hungry. All that is gone by day 2 of a fast; earlier if you got into ketosis a few days prior to starting the fast.
I could probably eat it for 5 days. Not sure I want to do a water fast.

If you don't fast, you are wrong about life.

you'd never understand.
You've likely never experienced the mental clarity of LSD or Psilocybin, but I don't judge.
You use IF and you've never want to try a longer fast? You gotta keep the body guessing so you don't acclimate to a single tool.
You haven't yet made case for the longer fast, but I'm open to it.
I think that you can get into autophagy earlier if you are in ketosis.

If you do try it, you want to do a few things to prepare...
- do keto the week prior to the fast. This reduces the early cravings.
- hydrate the week before. It will help with fatigue during the fast.
- prepare to take walks. Your mind gets restless during the fast, something about your brain wanting to work out how to get food. Walks help me with this. They also help me when I have cravings.
Sometimes I'll get really tired. Sometimes I am more restless than others. Sometimes I get headaches. Tylenol is a controversial subject while fasting, but I use it.
After the first day, food cravings usually vanish.
You probably want to research on breaking a fast and be disciplined enough to not eat to much on that first meal. Your stomach will shrink more than you realize.
that comes with fasting (for me). I also work out when fasting (cardio & weights). My experience has been very positive, but your mileage may vary. By the time I get to the third day I'm not longer hungry like the initial 24 hours. The remaining days are easy. As a wrestler I fasted and limited my intake of food quite regularly, so doing this is nothing new. I believe people should start with intermittent fasting (IF) and work up to longer intervals without food. Additionally, getting into the right mindset is important and understanding why you're choosing to engage in this process. Motivation can be highly personal and powerful in terms of success.
