NYT really can't say very much about why China's lockdown is bad except economy reason. Instead they say lockdown is out of date, treating lockdown like a fashionable thing. For the left media there is no truth. The reason they tell the truth today is because of another agenda they support. But they will contradict themselves tomorrow when the truth is no longer convenient.

If the US was half as bad as China, I'd have been disappeared in the first couple of months.
I know there were cities that had stricter rules than I dealt with where I am, but I didn't exactly follow the rules of my local jurisdiction. Nobody arrested me. Worst I had to deal with was a couple of overzealous white women who, turns out, didn't actually believe in equality for women.
I'm with Chris on this one. I'm grateful for this country. I also appreciate the rest of you that are vigilant in making sure we don't turn into those commie bastards.
The difference between US and China is contact tracing, not lockdown itself.
Lockdown is same in every country. Forbidden travel, closed public services, no park access no event...
What made China different from US and other countries is their ability to keep track of those who tested positive because of their advanced mobile technology that relies on scanning QR codes and an app. The goal is to curb the spread of the coronavirus by indicating who can go where.
But, what happened recently is Chinese lockdown protests. Chinese didn't protest contact tracing. What NYT talked about is lockdown, not contact tracing. We know NYT actually wants to implement Chinese style contact tracing. The left on this board all advocate contact tracing. Most rightists against it. But contact tracing is a different topic. Now the issue is lockdown. Again, there is not much difference on any lockdown.
I think you have no idea how strongly Chris supported lockdown and against reopen back then. Check the old posts.

Failed to enforce the order is a different issue. This is exactly the reason why you can't copy China's policy without considering your own country's culture, convention...different condition. Lockdown is Chinese invention if we consider modern society not ancient society. U.S. never had lockdown before Covid-19. All U.S. pre-covid pandemic policy has no lockdown. It is purely borrowed from China after seeing they shut down the spread of virus in Wuhan in February 2020 and got praise from WHO.
