that changed his mind about his initial stance that masks are ineffective. He emailed that a mask mandate was ineffective on Feb 20.2020 (the TRUE medical understanding of real doctors). He emailed again on 3/31/20 reaffirming this belief that masks weren't going to be effective as part of a general population mandate. On April 3rd, he made a 180 degree about face and insisted on the mandate. He now testifies that he can name no scientific study or trial to base this recommendation on. Fauci is unable to provide any scientific reason for his change of heart toward instituting a policy that damaged the entire country - particularly children and learning.
We were right all along. Of course. "Trust the science!" (The problem isn't trusting the science, it is trusting the politicans like Fauci).

Pretty cut and dry. Look Chris, to make the kind of recommendations that he made, he should have evidence, and he can't list any that changed his mind (he was quite clear about the futility of general mask use up to that sudden point).
Looking back, we can now see that general masks and Shut Down made no difference in infection rates or death rates. Also, we have seen that the masks and Shut Down had terrible consequences.
But since Fauci cannot be held to being able to see the future, he simply needs to explain what evidence he had to make his recommendation which he gave with complete certitude and the promise of backing by "science".
He lied. He killed people. He stunted children. He ruined lives. He was dead wrong. He shut down the debate by those who wanted to evaluate the efficacy (so much so that he now faces a lawsuit for colluding with social media comapanies to shut down debate on the issue.
He also ruined the reputation of brilliant scientists who found a different finding. He also shut down the investigation into the source of the virus.
I don't know his ultimate motive, but it is easy to guess - fame, the spotlight, adulation, political, or perhaps to avoid detection of his role in contributing funds to the research that created the virus (rather minor in amount in my opinion if so, but also absolutely indefensible whether or not it ultimately lead to the development of COVID-19 since it promoted Gain of Function research - and remember, Trump was making lots of noise about getting to the bottom of "The China Virus").
Baron continues to 'Make Stuff Up', especially when it comes to Dr. Fauci...here's some evidence to
support that statement...

Anecdotally, in the early part of my engineering career, I was tasked with doing "Failure Analysis" studies and ended up being quite successful in resolving them...including one that had a critical defense system halted...I've learned that you don't jump to conclusions...you methodically assess actual data, seek out probable causes...and then test them to PROVE that you got it right...we don't have enough data yet on COVID-19...

The chances of the virus just coincidentally starting naturally in the same city as a lab studying this exact coronavirus are beyond tiny.
We have too many people who cannot think logically at all, but my best guess is there are a lot of people - your hero the Great Fauchino included - whose best interests lie in the virus originating naturally.

Baron can't escape his "Big Fail" over the MIT Report which clearly shows that all masks work to
to some degree, and the best ones 'N95/KN95' work exceptionally well...and they are now available to all.
Here's Dr. Fauci answering Rand Paul's "question/statement' on mask usage (see link)...and when he can get a word in edgewise, explains that Sen. Paul is stuck on the 'no longer' dominant "Wild Type' (i.e. Original) version of COVID-19, not the newly emerging variants that are being shown to evade immunity...as we've all come to realize. Dr. Fauci can not be any more assertive in his statement that masks are necessary.
"Science" has shown us that SARS-CoV-2 mutated numerous times, creating highly infectious variants that require people to use the high quality masks that have been demonstrated to work effectively...Dr. Fauci's long association with that science enables him to see what Rand Paul and Baron cannot...thank goodness we don't have to rely on them.

I have to respect you Ty. You will fight this to the end. I don't have exact statistics but by
looking around during 2020 and 2021, I would say 90% or more of the people I saw were masked and it didn't stop the spread (and vaccines don't stop the spread as we know). Most people don't even wear the masks correctly. It was comical to see NBA and football coaches have to mask yet the players didn't. Then, during time outs, to see the coaches pulling down the masks to talk/yell at their players. My own kid who plays basketball had to mask up but nearly all the kids didn't even have the masks cover their noses or mouths. The government elites, caught out partying it up without masks. I had to wear a mask to enter a restaurant but once we all sat down, the whole table could take them off for as long as we were sitting there. If you are a healthy person, living like this is just nonsense. What are you afraid of? We've had bad flu seasons where statistically the percentages are on par with covid infections when taken looking at entire US population. We never shut down and we never were required to mask and we never mandated vaccine shots. You seem to refuse to acknowledge how much money and power is to play here and you are way too believing of what the government says. As I've told you in the end, there's a greater than 99% chance a healthy individual will live and be fine after getting covid. To go about your life, you have to be able to accept a reasonable level of risk. If you got cancer and the doctor said you had a 99% chance of survival, I think you would like those odds.

someone's got to do it, and given my association with extended family medical professionals in the "Infectious Disease" and "Intensive Care" fields, I'm confident in my postings...now, to your comments...so first a few basic comments, and then onto your observations/comments...

It's a constant battle in which the virus makes the first moves and we have to respond by giving it fewer opportunities to spread and mutate...right now, there is no "Silver Bullet" that will eradicate this disease that has killed over a million people in two years here in the U.S....so, we do our best to reduce the toll through vaccinations...and masking...note that I've provided compelling evidence that when a country uniformly adopts the need for vaccination and masking...Japan's death rate is 1/9th that of the U.S. because over 85% of their citizenry is not only vaccinated, but 'boosted'...and mask wearing is virtually universal.

First, masks REDUCE the spread of COVID...no one has ever said that their use would STOP the spread...reductions in cases saves lives...and helps keep our HC systems from becoming overwhelmed...again, 'barriers to entry', such as face masks and social distancing reduce transmission. as for vaccines, the evidence is overwhelming...the work very, very well when it comes to keeping people out of ICUs and morgues, which is their primary purpose. The initial vaccines were very effective in reducing infections as well, but this is a "Pandemic"...i.e. prevalent throughout the world, and in places like Africa that has very little access to vaccines, mutations, like Omicron were able to emerge and such variants have turned out to be able to get around the existing vaccines' protection from infection...time to develop newer vaccines.
NBA teams...in fact all Pro Teams...require players, coaches and staffs to be fully vaccinated...those who won't comply must be tested regularly...so long as the case and hospitalization rates in those communities are low enough, then it's pretty much up to the individuals, including fans, to decide for themselves whether or not to 'mask up'. I'm sure that if those rates suddenly spiked there would be more stringent measures taken.
As for 'sloppy' mask wearing, I think the CDC and local health organizations should re-double their efforts to show how people ought to use them...because when done right they really are effective in REDUCING the spread of COVID...
With the advent of COVID, restaurants have made significant accommodations...wider spacing of tables...better air ventilation and filtering...servers with masks, etc....so long as the community case/hospitalization rates stay low enough they will stay open...it's up to the individual customers to judge their own risk factors...we've gone out to eat a few times, but we always wear masks while waiting in the entryway for our table...lots of other people around in close proximity of whom we have no idea of their infection status...that's why we use masks there. btw, when dining out, we 'Antigen' test beforehand to protect our friends, family and others.
A bad 'Flu Year' results in ~ 50K deaths and typically around 25K...COVID has been more than 10x that death toll...also, I can't remember a year when there were refrigerated semi-trailer morgues parked in hospital lots during 'Flu Season'...can you?...furthermore, at its peak, COVID overwhelmed all hospitals in a state, necessitating the transport of patients to neighboring states...did you not read about this?...again, I have never seen such chaos during a Flu Season.
You need to open your eyes to what's been going on in the world around you...COVID has been a threat to our entire health care system, and it's only through vaccinations and mitigation efforts that the toll hasn't been higher...sadly, if we had better leadership in the beginning that encouraged trust and compliance with health professionals' guidance...like in Japan...our toll would have been much, much lower.
If masks are effective, then it's somewhat tragic that no one believes it.
I took a flight the week after the mask mandate was removed, approximately 1% of people were wearing masks in the airports and planes.
The blame for the fact that no one believes in masking is squarely on the public health officials. No one trusts them.
I would agree that public health officials could do a better job of 'marketing' the use of masks
with widespread videos of proper usage, etc....however, it's been our experience that when case and hospitalization rates were high, the large majority of people were properly masked...now that they have diminished, many folks have relaxed their defenses...but for those who are willing to take simple measures to protect themselves - and others - in a still risky environment, mask wearing is not a problem.
btw, I'm glad you brought up the word "TRUST"...I'm going to keep repeating this, like it or not...the Japanese people 'Trust' their leadership and Health Care professionals...they have universally adopted mask wearing and gotten fully vaccinated...and boosted...when advised to do so...there have been no mandates...and the result is a death rate from COVID that is NINE TIMES lower than ours...and this in one of the more densely populated countries on earth...that so many Americans fail to trust established medical sources is a shame...it's not like they (HC Professionals) didn't serve us well with Smallpox, Polio, SARS, MERS and Ebola, to name a few infectious diseases...what changed?...I'll tell you what changed...a President who 'always wanted to DOWNPLAY the disease' and called it a "Hoax"...you remember that, don't you?

Not sure if you have a background in science, but it's a 'dynamic' process that seeks
understanding of the world around us...since viruses mutate and act differently, we need to understand those changes and act accordingly...like designing new vaccines when a virus eludes the existing one...note the newly released 'Bi-Valent' booster...just one example of how "The Science" changes.

Wife and I got our 'Bi-valent' booster shots this week...nurse who gave the shots was
'Double Masked' with a KN95 and an N95 over it...she has to be there for a full shift seeing anyone and everyone...makes good sense. btw, I've tried it myself...the resultant fit is very secure, plus there's a double barrier...not needed when I'm only in store for a few minutes, but for her, it's a wise decision.
One thing for sure...not wearing a mask offers zero protection...no doctor or nurse would dare not wear one in an environment that had the possibility of COVID circulating...plus they'd end up being fired if they didn't.
