They get these wrong every single time. Examples of these draconian predictions gone wrong are everywhere. But science! They are charlatans and have no credibility.
There is more ice in the arctic today than when this was published. It's too much to expect an update or retraction, but soldier on they will.
The experts. Paid propaganda activists.
the science behind CC...it just claims that a) no serious harm will occur for many years and b) mankind will easily adapt...which is ludicrous given the clear NOAA data that shows CO2 atmospheric concentration rising rapidly past 415 ppm as the world adds more and more CO2 that will not be scrubbed out for hundreds of years.
It's tough for an energy company like Exxon to shift away from its "Cash Cow" and invest in Carbon Free technologies...sort of like the Railroads not expanding their portfolios to include other modes of transportation (e.g. Interstate Trucking and Air Transport). I personally am appreciative of what the FF Industry has provided us...and continues to...but we need to make this shift...quickly...it sure would help if they'd work cooperatively toward that end.

Given that we won't have the energy sources to do so.

Why do you feel the need to twist things?
what you do with that knowledge of the Climate Change issue is totally up to you...you can act accordingly and support new sources of energy...or, cling to a harmful...and diminishing...resource that is vital for so many other uses that have no alternative (e.g. Plastics).

Exxon had a secretive research program too. In 1981, one of its managers, Roger Cohen, sent an internal memo observing that the company’s long-term business plans could “produce effects which will indeed be catastrophic (at least for a substantial fraction of the earth’s population).”

Now go to that article and click on the "internal memo" link...Exxon knew that CC represented a genuine and serious threat to the planet, yet they embarked on a disinformation campaign...you are one of its victims.
