Nobody was going untreated, mind you (so as to short circuit the bogus claims by those who want to pretend that we were otherwise not giving care to illegal immigrants). But the hospitals, who are raking in the doe and additionally enjoying tax free status as nonprofits, will now be paid at the tax payer expense in Washington state. When hosptials were intially allowed to register as nonprofts, the idea was that it was because they were going deal with the burden of the uninsured. Now they get paid AND not pay taxes (this is also why they supported ObamaCare which was actually about paying hospitals.
I can't wait for the libs next excuse for the flood at the border (if they admit it is happening at all).

We aren't deporting illegal immigrants or turning them away, so why not put systems in place that allow them to A) be taxed and B) pay for their own health insurance?
If you gave me the choice, I would take 10 illegal immigrants for every one woke teacher leaving the country. I'd offer free health insurance to every illegal immigrant if we would drastically increase rates on people with BMIs that are too high.
....this is all about paying hospitals for services already being rendered. They are raking in money at record rates. The single biggest industry in our country, and 84% of the hospitals don't pay any taxes. The status of tax free came with an understanding which has now been broken.
(Now see if the Dems are willing to mess with this lobby group....hint: they aren't).
I don't think the tax argument really has anything to do with whether or not illegals should have the ability to buy health insurance.
If we want to get into a discussion about the medical industrial complex in general, it's going to be a long night.
It should not be given to the taxpayers without taking back that exemption. Then, it would markedly soften the blow.
I believe all people should get health care. The problem right now is that the people who work as citizens have 12k deductibles and copays that the noncitizens do not with medicaid. That also needs to be addressed.
Taxpayers and people who pay into health insurance are already paying for healthcare for illegals. Does this not give illegals an avenue to pay into the system as well?
We can have a discussion about whether or not hospitals should have a tax advantage, I just think that's a separate conversation.

I guess I agree with you.

Under the current Administration, immigrants are being allowed in under the asylum rules, however those rules have been relaxed to include any reason for seeking the asylum. Asylum can be denied, but the courts are backed up for years because of the deluge of people crossing the border.
According to USCIS, "You are not eligible to receive an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) until your asylum application has been pending for a total of 180 days."
It gets more specific from there...
"Asylum seekers do not automatically have the right to work. You may apply for a work permit, or “Employment Authorization Document,” (EAD) 150 days after you have applied for asylum. If approved, you will be eligible to receive your work permit 180 days after you applied for asylum."
So you can get a work permit 150 days, but guess what that process is delayed too. So you have to wait another 180 days from that point before you can work. That's almost a full year.
After a full year, what we find is that most of these "asylum seekers" don't even bother and they work under the table or live by other means.
Of course, I think you knew all of that and were just being a disingenuous little Calculated Unibrowed Nutsucking Tallywhacker implying that they pay sales tax while ignoring the fact that many don't pay income tax.

Secondly, I think we can do better. Asylum seekers should be able to work while they await asylum without having to wait. I don't know why you would argue with that.
Thirdly, the estimated number of illegals paying income taxes varies wildly because they are undocumented. It's between 50 and 75%. Lets get that last 25%. Local law enforcement just recovered over a million doses of fentanyl-laced cocaine that was tied directly to a Mexican cartel. I'll bet that's not being taxed. Let's go get that.
Lastly, let's not do this thing where they only pay 8%. What is that? You want them to be citizens, let's tax them like a citizen. What tax bracket does a million doses of fentanyl-laced cocaine put you in? I'll bet higher than 8%.
