It's kind of funny the FDA spokesperson criticizes his position as "selective", it's all selective. For every study finding one thing, you can find another finding the opposite. Same is true for whether vaccines reduce the risk of long CoVid, they definitely don't prevent it, do they reduce the risk? Hard to say definitively.
Also from the article, only 15% of eligible people have received the latest booster. This means that 85% of eligible people aren't trusting the advice of the CDC and FDA. Sort of reminds me of a guy on a podcast recently who was talking about how people in Russia have a very skeptical attitude towards government communications and news. Public trust has been eroded, and that's not good.

there yet...per today's Johns Hopkins COVID-19 data report for the U.S., there were 4,246 COVID deaths last week (i.e. 220K/yr)...although this is a lower amount than during the height of the pandemic, it's nothing to 'sneeze' at...consequently, the CDC, et al, is advocating for measures to keep the pressure on the virus by continuing to push for vaccinations/boosters.
There is also concern for those who have already contracted COVID, as seen in the attached link with the headline.."Repeat COVID-19 infections increase risk of organ failure, death"...along with increased morbidity (my term) from 'Long COVID'...i.e. even among 'Young, Healthy' survivors.
Dr. Paul Offit is a really good resource when it comes to COVID-19 and all viruses...but like minded people can differ in tactics...btw, since you favor Dr. Offit's view, consider what he has to say about Dr. Fauci...(from...https://www.medpagetoday.com/special-reports/exclusives/102275)

My research life has been in the world of rotaviruses, and I first started working on rotaviruses in the early 1980s. At the same time I was doing that, NIAID was also working on rotaviruses. In fact, they were the first, in collaboration with Wyeth, to make a rotavirus vaccine. So I've known Tony for 40 years.
That vaccine had a problem. It was only on the mrket for about 10 months before it was taken off because of an issue with safety. And Tony was always a very clear voice. If there was a problem with safety, he wanted to identify it and figure out how common or rare it was, and deal with the facts. His sense of judgment, his intelligence, his knowledge of rotavirus, even though he wasn't necessarily a rotavirus researcher -- that really impressed me.
But I think the thing that impressed me the most about Tony was the first time I heard him speak, I was in my early 30s and had never heard anybody speak that clearly. He told a story. He drew you right in. His language and his ability to express difficult scientific concepts was just brilliant. I'd never heard anybody that clear and that compelling as a speaker. So ever since then, I sort of modeled myself after his talks, because I never thought it was possible to be able to tell a story with a basic science talk. But he did that.

Basic logic, common sense and reasoning were all either thrown out the window or never utilized in the first place. Instead, a fear-based sky-is-falling approach was.
Despite not one single RCT ever being conducted using hydroxychloroquine / zinc / azithromycin the way it's supposed to be used (on vulnerable populations within 5 days of symptom onset), the Great Fauchino dismissed numerous credible observational studies showing it worked. And because of his flawed personal medical philosophy that doesn't even square with what his own nih.gov website says, the lackeys at the CDC and FDA willingly agreed to what this overly powerful bureaucrat spouted so their standing wouldn't be jeopardized. Worse, most medical concerns went along with this because they just blindly go along with what these organizations say.
And once we knew who was vulnerable - the elderly and obese - instead of telling them to isolate or wear only N95 masks (the only kind that work), we acted as if everyone was at serious risk and that cloth and surgical masks actually, but falsely, had any efficacy. Data also show us virtually no one under 40 had to worry about this, much less people under 20. But the corrupt CDC allowed teachers unions to write their guidelines, permanently harming many kids.
The whole way our "leaders" handled this was complete nonsense.
Lies lead to mistrust.

Yes, Dr. Fauci "Changed the Goal Posts"...but only because COVID changed...we dance to the virus' tune here...always.
Here's another article in that topic, with a better description of what's going on....https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/24/health/herd-immunity-covid-coronavirus.html
Bottom line...ALWAYS trust Dr. Fauci.

This notion that a layman can't adequately learn through research and conversing with experts (both of which I've done far more than you on Covid) is intellectual snobbery. I can list you three instances off the top of my head where layman were right and experts were wrong.
his public statements and recommendations.

Did they really think that Soviet style suppression of dissent was going to work long term?
