Tough day at the Bettis household. Our 14 year old Beagle mix passed away today. Old Bettis was a reall go-getter back in the day. Loved to play ball. God, that dog would chase a tennis ball for hours. Real good dog too, learned to sit, roll-over, shake, etc... I could always let her out back with no fence and she would never leave the yard. She lived in three different apartements and then two houses.
Bettis had really slowed over the past year. I found her this morning laying out in the yard, limp and having a real hard time breathing. She had a cogestive heart failure.
Just got done burying her in the back yard a couple of hourse ago.
You'll be missed Bettis. RIP.

You buried your dog in the back yard?
Where exactly?
What if it rains? What if you ever sell the house?
Thanks Conor. I buried her in the far corner of the backyard by the tree line. Rain shouldn't be an issue, I buried her several feet deep. I packed the dirt down down real good, soaked it, etc... She isn't going anywhere.
Yep, we may move down the line, but what are you going to do. I didn't want to have her cremated, that seemed cruel.
Thinking about getting a dog soon, but this part scares me. Especially for my kids.
Teaches them to accept death, handle grief and ultimately move on with fond memories.
That being said, I'm completely dreading the day my 'ol lab kicks it and having to tell my young son. Rest assured, we'll both be sobbing heavily.
we have 3 cats and 2 dogs and 2 of my cats are gettin' very old...
i feel for ya man, pets are the best...
oinker ^-@-^ ~
Take Woj's advice.
And your a tough guy to take the tasks you did upon yourself. Once the "pain" wears a bit, go find yourself a puppy.
I'll send a few prayers your way.
Keep us posted.
