IMO using the debt ceiling as a weapon by the GOP is counter-productive to getting a fair agreement with such thin majorities in the House and Senate...this problem is going to need much more time to resolve, equitably.

I'm also hoping that more discussion...and legislation...is undertaken on ways to provide everyone in the U.S. the opportunity to realize investment gains to go along with SS benefits...starting such programs early and having them transportable would provide significant enhancements to those retirement needs...

We do need to do something about SS, as it sits it will drop to 77% in 2034. I've suggested eliminating the earnings cap.

Life expectancy was 65 when SS was enacted. It's only reasonable to raise the age of eligibility.

d. it should be sunset. It cannot be eliminated overnight, but it can be put on that path. I'm more in favor of a trust established for each baby unavailable until a mandatory retirement of, let's say, 65. I would index it to the GDP and treat it like a pension. Perhaps give each baby $2500 for the first 5 years of their lives and then let it sit and grow over time. $10,000K over 60 years grows to $330K at 6%. I would leave the contribution caps for now but phase out payments based on income from other investments.

I have no issue with medicare and medicaid since it can be supplemented. Which, of course, so can retirements, but the negative return for social security is a scam.

see or read Floridians voting en masse for R’s who quite clearly state - “I’m all for cutting your income and medical care and make you pay more for everything “.

A good bipartisan thing to do is to do the right thing but then R’s just can’t help themselves.
