We were justified to respond to Sadam's invasion of Kuwait... but there was insufficient evidence to return on the basis of weapons of mass destruction.

don't get it. America has military ability to invade and destroy any country in this world to make regime change. But America has zero ability in nation-building even on a small country. After 20 years and 7800 American soldiers' lives and trillions $$, you still don't get this truth. Its amazing.
Iraq I was absolutelly correct.
The US has a special place in this world. We ended two world wars.
Our isolationists would never have entered either one.
unfinished business of the first Iraq war. Both you and neocon don't understand Senior Bush's insight and wisdom: You can destroy a nation and it's regime, but you can't rebuild a new one. Nation is always built naturally not artificially. Artificially created nation is always problematic.
I have been anti-war since Viet Nam and am no neo con.
But I am also not in favor of appeasing tyranical/genocidal aggressors.
I've been anti-communist since the 1950s.

I agree with Chris.
And anyone whoi tjhinks it was wise to let Sadam off the hook after he invaded Kuwait is a Pollyanna.

expend regional influence. The later proxy wars between Saudi (our ally before Biden era) and Iran, especially the horrible one in Yemen that ruined the country, are direct result of losing Saddam in the middle east. Because Saddam's Iraq kept Iran in check.
Of course on others perspectives Iraq war is bad too.
Saddam wasn't off hook after first Iraq war (which is right one). His Iraq was sanctioned by UN after the war. Iraq oil export was limited for foods and basic living goods only.
You're brainwashed by liberal ideaolgy, boxed in a very narrow childish worldview of dictatorship vs democracy, good vs bad, black vs white. But that's just ideaolgy, not how this world really works.

He was in an arms race with Iran, which was developing nukes.
This might well have accdelerated.
Then the Saudis would have wanted them also.
God knows the North Koreans would have helped anyone.
I think eliminating Sadam was worthwhile but Bush I flinched.
He would have died of natural causes by now and one of his troglodyte sons would be in charge and he would still be 100% contained.
And tens of thousands of people currently dead would be alive.
Iran is MUCH stronger now that Saddam is gone.
But he was a monster who invaded a sovereign nation in a geopolitically strategic area of the world.

It was a massive failure of our IC….yet again. Why?
I believe in deterrence.
Bush thought launching an unprovoked, unjust war was the answer to a problem that, as it turns out, didn’t exist.
And some people still defend that decision.
You argue for war in Ukraine against others who argue against.
The coin changes sides, and there are factors that reasonable people consider differently.
But WHY were we discussing it at all? Will you admit the answer? It was the Intel Community who bares the blame.

….do it right, and finish it, or don’t do it.
And because the US is so political schizophrenic on a 4 year basis, we should seek to avoid most conflicts. Ukraine may well enter this conversation soon.

Those same intel agencies told Clinton that Iraq had WMD. And Bush’s father.
This was Dubya’s horrible mistake. Deflect all you want.
He made the right call for the info provided btw. Because that info told him a crazy man would have Nikes and be eager to use them. That would be worse than all what has happened since if it were true.
Unbelievable that you protect the IC. The info was so wrong that given the political nature of the department subsequently revealed, one has to consider whether it was intentionally done or not.
You should google Doug Feith and “office of specials plans” before continuing your stupid ramblings.
