...first the words of former RNC Chair, Ken Mehlman (see link)
------------------
It was called "the southern strategy," started under Richard M. Nixon in 1968, and described Republican efforts to use race as a wedge issue -- on matters such as desegregation and busing -- to appeal to white southern voters.
Ken Mehlman, the Republican National Committee chairman, this morning will tell the NAACP national convention in Milwaukee that it was "wrong."
"By the '70s and into the '80s and '90s, the Democratic Party solidified its gains in the African American community, and we Republicans did not effectively reach out," Mehlman says in his prepared text. "Some Republicans gave up on winning the African American vote, looking the other way or trying to benefit politically from racial polarization. I am here today as the Republican chairman to tell you we were wrong."

Now, for those who are more comfortable with video information sources...here's a brief review of the "Southern Strategy" for you...
-----------------
There you have it...complete with Lee Atwater's Code Words that will resonate with Racist voters..

I think even the dumbest of them are just screwing around. Scoring points. Owning the libs!, etc.
for them, so I'm not at all surprised at the responses...but they need to be confronted with the truth...always.
As MLK said..."The Arc of the Moral Universe is long, but it bends toward Justice"
Elections are generally close. You think half the country is deluded.
You are quite unfriendly, and a horse's ass.
Grow up.
Southern Strategy...that's what's called Reality...now you need to face it. btw, I'm on solid ground here...you're not.
Odd that you did not reference The New Deal as an example of political realignment
You consistently ignore the past. You will never learn from mistakes made.
the Voting Rights Act and then the Fair Housing Act. Then suddenly the white D’s all became white R’s.
Psst……it’s the same folks just under a different label.
The game playing on this subject is silly.
Bet the Jakers clan were all southern D’s until this happened and became southern R’s.
BTW, how many people were enslaved, lynched, burned to death and raped by the Southern Strategy?
How many states seceded?
You are embarrassing yourself.
racist Democrats who supported the KKK, lynchings, etc. in the south changed their party affiliation after LBJ and the Democratic Party leadership passed the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts, and joined the Republican party, who welcomed them with open arms. You have all the evidence you need to understand what happened, so no excuses.
For a poster who changed his Username, you shouldn't find that switch difficult to comprehend.

Sure, maybe that was the Republican strategy 60 years ago. The Democrats have all but cornered the market on racial and identity politics wrapped in imagined grievance since around 2008.
The Dems have exploited and devastated the black community by fostering hyper-dependence on the federal government. Latent racism is insidious.

shouldn't have done anything.
As for the racism issue...here's an excerpt from LBJ's former aide, Bill Moyers, who got this first hand...
----------------
WHILE Lyndon Baines Johnson was a man of time and place, he felt the bitter paradox of both. I was a young man on his staff in 1960 when he gave me a vivid account of that southern schizophrenia he understood and feared. We were in Tennessee. During the motorcade, he spotted some ugly racial epithets scrawled on signs. Late that night in the hotel, when the local dignitaries had finished the last bottles of bourbon and branch water and departed, he started talking about those signs. "I'll tell you what's at the bottom of it," he said. "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you."
----------------
That's the real LBJ...and his ACTIONS rebut anything that your Mr. Dunphy conjectures...

LBJ's War On Poverty unravled the black family and Hillary's "It takes a village" philosophy completed its destruction.
Life is not good and evil or black and white.
ALL politicians are the same... the want the gig and will do and say ANYTHING to get it and keep it.

IF that's what you're saying, you really do believe all Democrats are perfect people.
In 2020 election, Trump increased percentage of votes of EVERY ethnic minority comparing to 2016 despite being labeled as a racist. Biden lost votes of every ethnic minority in term of percentage.
Ironically, in 2020 election, the only ethnic category Trump lost (again in term of percentage and compare to 2016 ) is the group you call racist, white men. Yes, Trump even gained white women votes in 2020. Trump lost 8% white men votes. Since white men is the largest category, base number is huge. We can say from your logic the racist white men defeat Trump and elect Biden in 2020.
What you really don't understand is the racist claims have only strengthened minority resolve to support Trump. We will see it again 2024 regardless of win or lose by Trump.
increase his attraction to that demographic?
Brinton is leading the incumbent Joe
in the majority of polls. This should be very concerning for the DNC.

and the context...i.e. Joe lists just a portion of his record in support of Black people in America...no doubt why they ended up giving him 87% of their vote...and likely more than that in 2024...
Now, do you acknowledge...as the former RNC admitted...and apologized for to the NAACP...that the Southern Strategy was a conscious effort to use racism?
race card on a daily basis. Biden can't run on any significant accomplishments people care about, I guess racial division is all he's got. The voters know he is incompetent and tuned him out a long time ago..
turned todat;s GOP into a home for racist voters, yet it denies all the evidence that proves it and accuses today's Democratic party of such behavior, If you also deny this reality, then the only hypocrite here is you.
Evidence matters.

it's important to know since it helps define the party you support, and it's outlook on America.

itself to those who are...i.e. that party is corrupted and needs a "cleansing" by doing what former RNC Chair, Ken Mehlman did...Acknowledge its failure and Apologize for it, vowing and acting to never do that again.
btw, I'm on record as believing in a two party system...we NEED conservatives, just as conservatives NEED liberals, so as to ensure that reasonable decisions are made for the good of all. Right now, the GOP is a mess and needs to repair itself.

posters such as yourself to present any evidence to the contrary is proof that claim is accurate.
was...and is...essential to the GOP's efforts to gain votes. Note Lee Atwater's comments on "Code Words" in stead of outright racist terms...you'll hear and see them today....
Given the supreme importance of holding onto such voters, it's not surprising that you and others will politically 'die' on that hill, denying the existence of the "Southern Strategy".
You refuted nothing and blabber instead about a conspiracy theory which does not counter the factual atrocities committed by your party in the past.
Pure gibberish.
Willful ignorance of facts.
24KKK bullshit.
You don't like them leaving what you believe is their plantation.

You ain't black. They'll put you back in chains. Trump will bring back Jim Crow. You said the word "monkey," which is racist. The border wall is racist.
It's all you are. You are nothing else.

...btw, speaking or "running away", I'm still waiting for your response to the thread I gave you, re: the NEJM report Baron couldn't read correctly...and the one where you ended up saying "Fair Enough", thus implying acceptance of my evidence...i hope you're not running away from it.
