Only one incumbent has been re-elected in the past 100 years with a GDP <3% in an election year... Barack Obama.
But he managed to set a record for turn out in the African American community AND he was not commonly seen as senile as hell.
NYT is #1 spinning media. Other MSM except CNBC just lie. But NYT is a master in spinning. NYT knew there is no other standard measurement of GDP and 2.5 should be the only correct answer. But the way they put GDP number made readers think 3.1 is standard number, 2.5 is a secondary measurement result.
