And then there is the 8th Amendment which says that "excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted."
Bond companies are saying that this is far and away the largest EVER. Probably no one can come up with that amount of cash in this time frame. SCOTUS will probably slap this down… if the NY appellate court doesn’t do it first… because it sets a precedent that no objective legal mind wants on the books. After all, it could be used by anyone against any politician.

Sometimes lawyers exaggerate... especially in pleadings.
This brief probably cited some NY law that gives him wiggle room on the bond.
I'd wager this would be the greatest bond ever and that might make it "unreasonable" under the case law.
And then there is a bankruptcy option... which stays state court proceedings.
But what pleases me as an attorney are all those billable hours.
