for the league? I heard it said last week and then Shaq seemed to have issues with it last night.
In a sport that has really deemphasized the position.
When it goes to one person too often, some people think it’s bad for the sport.
I suppose you are trying to make some sort of bullshit race/culture war point, though.
But if you were a sports fan, you’d hear that every time there is guy who wins multiple awards.
The "old guard" of what the N.B.A. had become identified closely with the urban/hip-hop cultural attachment it had become. Many of the current players in the league, as well.
Jokic, Giannis, Doncic, Sabonis, Markkanen, Wemby, Vuzavic, Porzingis, Wagner.....these aren't role players who get minutes here and there in the games. They're stars - among the best 20-ish players in the league. And culturally, they have almost nothing in common with the majority of American-born players in the league.
It makes them panic. They felt like it was "their" league, and they resent the threat.
You see that in Hockey as well.
There is a grudging acceptance of Euro excellence.

I watch a lot of NBA coverage, and I never hear anything like this. If anything, people are excited that it is becoming more and more of a world game.
You’re projecting.
I do not think the N.B.A. nor the mainstream coverage of it dislikes Europeans. I'm referring to the ones who openly state that it would be "bad for the league" for a European guy to win. Or the ones who are less guarded in how much they hate said Euros on their podcasts and social media.
Important: My list of players was not exclusively white guys, if you look.
I stand by my opinion of their motives. And I haven't cared about hoops since Cleveland finally got a title.

hard on their ego
Just like other sports where blacks are the majority; there’s an element of racism when a “white boy” dominates. Case in point…In boxing years ago, Bernard Hopkins claimed “I will not get beat by a white boy”. Bernard eventually got his ass kicked by said white boy.
But it is far from the majority.
Any time any athlete is on the verge of winning multiple MVPs in a row, some observers will say it’s bad for the sport. People said the same thing about Jordan in the 1990s. Has nothing to do with race.
Most of all, very very few people think this way. Talking heads just need shit to stir.

He’s the best player but also the least enamored with the NBA.
The guy is dominant, so I can’t think of any other reason why he shouldn’t be MVP
