He didn't get the spending reduced and a transparent plan in place to deal with the debt. The economy was heading in a good direction. Unemployment looked great. We weren't funding any major military conflicts.
Take that window to reallocate spending to pay off some of the debt! It's an area where Chris and I agree politically: Pay down the debt when the economy is growing. Be transparent and visible about what you're doing. Keep tax rates in place and let everyone know the plan.
None of this happened.
The obvious punchline is that we're supposed to judge monetary and fiscal policy on inflation, not debt.
My biggest complaint about all of it is that there is so much corruption baked into the spending. Ginormous omnibus bills to pay off political allies.

I can see what she is talking about with regards to spending properly, and how that can benefit the economy. Not sure I believe that over spending is ever good though, I don't see why we can't trim bloat from the budget and use it better.
To solve some unknown crisis beyond the horizon.
But there needs to be some type of return on investment that the people you are governing for can actually see. I do think that a massive deficit should be reserved for a crisis like what you are referencing.
