1. Shake shack
2. In-N-Out
3. Culvers
In-N-Out is still my favorite, but there are none around me. I have to get that on TDY out to California or Texas.
I've never had Shake Shack, but if I'm ever around one, I'd like to try it out. There are some Smash Burgers about an hour or so north of me, but I haven't been up that way in a bit, so no opportunity to try them out.
I had Culver's on a trip to the midwest, and perhaps it was a bad day for them but I was unimpressed.
Freddy's Steakburgers was actually really good the one time I was able to try them out.
We have a Five Guys and Cookout in the area, Five Guys is the better burger, but I can get a double cheese w/ Cajun from Cookout and that is all the burger needs to be pretty good, and they are cheaper.
When I have a burger, I like it medium rare and the chains can't cook that way.
On the rare occasion I eat fast food, I'll get a chicken sandwich these days.
Both are regional, and not anywhere near where I live. I do hit Culver’s from time to time as my wife likes the Culver’s cheese curds.
Chick-Fil-A is my goto for fast food these days.

I know most of you haven't heard of The Burger's Priest but it's a popular chain in Ontario. With burger names like New York's Finest Taxi Service, The High Priest, The Vatican City, Blue Steel, Double Magnum, Noah's Ark, The Tower of Babel, The Pope, Judgement Day, Armageddon and The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, it'd better be great. And it is. Fantastic flavour, creative designs and reasonable prices. If you're ever up this way, it is worth the effort to find one of their restaurants and try for yourself. I've linked their menu below. It's worth a look.
As for the American chains, I think Red Robin is excellent, and would be my go to if I had a choice.
Finally, I didn't see anyone mention Smashburger. I've had it twice in the US and thought it was great. Is that not a widely held opinion, or are there just not enough of them to get recognized?

They use less chuck in their burger which makes it taste meatier.
I’ve sampled most of the rest over the years. Everyone in CA loves the In n Out...it’s fine.
They have a whole bunch of other options though, I often get the cod sandwich. Their cheese curds are excellent as well. If you visit the Midwest, give em a try.

The mobs that would form in Madison Park were unbelievable...mostly professional types from the local businesses and hospitals...

I have noticed that the burgers from McD, BK, and Wendy’s have seriously deteriorated in the last few years. I pretty much have avoided them for a while.

In some ways, Big Boy never left. He's always offered the same high-quality meals at competitive prices.
