Always looking for new ones. I only listen to a few, but there is a lot of great stuff out there. There is also a lot of crap.
My favorites:
Revisionist History - Malcom Gladwell
Snap Judgement - Glen Washington. Also its sister podcast, Spooked.
Freakonomics Radio
One offs:
The Bakersfield Three - true crime story that is expertly done. Terrible story.
The Gas Man - incredible tale of a US Agent's hunt for illegal chemical weapon shipments
(no message)
Joe Rogan, Lex Fridman, Chris Williamson, Tom Bilyeu, Theo Von and Jocko Willink are all great interviewers.
Andrew Huberman - All sorts of topics on neuroscience, exercise and nutrition.
Duncan Trussel Family Hour - Out there dude into psychedelics and buddhism
Club Random with Bill Maher
Hot Boxin' with Mike Tyson - The episodes with Bill Burr and Eminem are pretty interesting.
Konstanin Kisin (Triggernometry)
Dave Smith - Part of the Problem (Libertarian, political, bent towards humor)
Tim Dillon - Makes fun of everything
Adam Carolla - Makes fun of everything
Guests that tend to have a political bent: Jordan Peterson, Sam Harris, Douglas Murray, Bret Weinstein, Eric Weinstein
Guests that do not have a political bent: Sara Walker (astrophysics), Brian Greene (astrophysics), Robert Greene (author of books on human nature), Duncan Trussel (out there comedian), Scott Galloway (life and career advice), Coleman Hughes (topics around race), Neal Brennan (comedian who has been on a psychedelic journey), Paul Stamets (mycology), Ryan Holiday (stoicism)
The Lost Debate -- For Political Eclectics: A relatively balanced podcast.
FedSoc Forums -- From The Federalist Society -- It is a conservative/libertarian organization, but their podcasts generally include panelists with opposing views from a wide swath of the legal profession. I listen to about half of them on topics which I find interesting
FiveThirtyEight Politics -- A generally left leaning podcast, but it is typically empirically based content.
Inside ND Sports -- I still like Eric Hansen, He is one of the few writers on the ND beat that I can tolerate.(I used to listen to the UHND podcast, but there haven;t been any new episodes in almost a year.)
Club Random with Bill Maher -- He occasionally has interesting guests. Usually when I need something "lighter"
My daughter occasionally sends me episodes from the "ALAB" (All Lawyers are Bad) and "Your Wrong About" that I will listen to when prompted
I also listen to a few work related ones (We Get Work from Jackson Lewis and DC Insider from Fortney Scott). You are probabaly not going to find those intersting unless you work in Labor/Employment Law or HR
If you like geology and Notre Dame football respectively.
PS why would anyone down vote this?
1. Short History Of.....: narrated by John Hopkins. Wide range of topics from biographies, wars, exploration. I find it fascinating. And the storytelling is first rate. I only mention the narrator because Hopkins' voice is perfect for a podcast. He's a great storyteller. If you're looking for a one episode sample, I'd suggest The Real Robinson Crusoe from Feb 19, 2023.
2. The Rest is History: Similar to #1 but the narrators are real historians, and funny ones too. I actually just finished their 8 part series on the French Revolution that prompted my post earlier today and I'd recommend that as a starter.
3A. The Late Braking F1 Podcast and The Race F1 Podcast: Honestly, don't listen to either of them if you aren't an F1 fan but I am a fan and I'm starved for coverage so both these podcasts get a regular listen from me.
Guilty Pleasure:
Smartless: I enjoy Jason Bateman and Wil Arnett riffing off each other. Sean Hayes is really the 3rd wheel and doesn't offer much but the other two are great. I'm surprised Arnett doesn't do more hosting. He's got a quick wit. Their episode with Keanu Reaves was really good. Not the funniest of their episodes, but man is Reaves a really cool guy. Insightful.
Avoidance:
Any political podcast: It's toxic. All of it. No one will convince me otherwise.
and he focuses less on math and more on changing financial behavior, but I listen to Dave Ramsey from time to time to set me right.
From freakonomics. Short and interesting.
