By every account I ever read of him, a decent man. He was misdiagnosed with Alzheimer's a decade ago, but then he, fortunately, got a second opinion. It turned out he had undiagnosed Lymes Disease, and his memory came back.

"Me and Bobby McGee" belongs on the top 10 list of all-time American songs.
