Young people now. It’s really discouraging. I’m not sure what we could have done better with this new variant hitting us. But hospital IC units are depressing. What the fuck happened? No politics please but I see people coming into this hospital in Jersey City every 10 minutes. Fuck.
Sadly, we humans are too easily spooked into panic.
MY hope is that we got burned by our own over-reaction last year and will not put up with it again.

fighting for their life in an ICU. Yes, death rates are way down and that is a blessing although many here pooh poohed much higher numbers last year. That doesn’t take into account the misery of many of these people in the hospital or the impact on our health system. You wanna follow the numbers? Great. Start following hospitalizations of the young in areas with low vax rates.
If one of them had a negative reaction to a COVID infection I would react as if they'd had a traffic accident involving a drunk driver. It would be a personal tragedy and I would be naturally anxious. But it would not constitute a national crisis requiring another Prohibition
Best way to stop future lockdowns.
How old are these kids? Vaxxed or no?

Not being political, but the Trump Administration's management and messaging was unhelpful, -- minimizing the deadly nature of the virus, and not being more assertive re masking and social distancing.
That culture of disinformation, distrust, and complacency has lingered amongst too many Americans -- refusing to get vaccinated, notwithstanding the current Administration's efforts to push vaccinations.
The medical professionals (and others -- first responders, nursing home workers, grocery workers, delivery people, public transit) have proven to be the best of us.
Glad to hear your son in law is improving. Truly sucks to know that a responsible person who follows all the guidance, can still wind up in a hospital (albeit a small %). Life can be unfair and cruel. I think of folks who are healthy, get their annual physicals, take care of themselves through diet and exercise, yet still get stage 4 cancer and die.

Been through it in my own family.
Just stop the political bullshit and get the shots.

widely available, yet only approx 6 in 10 adults are fully vaxxed, and the reasons from Tuskegee to safety concerns are just BS. This Israeli poll shows that 20% of our people think transmitters are being injected with the shot.
It’s almost unfathomable, but we are becoming a nation of nutties.
It is so depressing because it can be avoided.

experimental treatment when he came close to dying. They are looking at whether he is a longer haul COVID guy. So far no, but he goes every month and is paid for it. Not unexpectedly, his experience caused him to go from a vaxx skeptic to a wholehearted supporter. He said the people at the medical place he goes to have said to him that the only thing that is going make a difference is when young unvaccinated people start to flood the hospitals and start dying. That is truly, truly sad.
