Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) issued a statement on Saturday apologizing for a video that appeared to mock the Catholic faith.
In the statement, she said she “would never do something to denigrate someone’s faith,” adding that the video, which touches on the CHIPS Act, “has been construed as something it was never intended to be.”
“Over 25 years in public service, I would never do something to denigrate someone’s faith. I’ve used my platform to stand up for people’s right to hold and practice their personal religious beliefs. My team has spoken to the Michigan Catholic Conference. What was supposed to be a video about the importance of the CHIPS Act to Michigan jobs, has been construed as something it was never intended to be, and I apologize for that,” Whitmer said.
In the video posted by social media influencer and former MSNBC columnist Liz Plank on Friday, Whitmer, donning a camouflage Harris-Walz campaign hat, is seen feeding a Dorito to a kneeling Plank.
The video is captioned: “If he won’t, Gretchen Whitmer will. Chips aren’t just delicious, the CHIPS Act is a game-changer for U.S. tech and manufacturing, boosting domestic production of semiconductors to reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. Donald Trump would put that at risk.”

btw, Kneeling while receiving the Eucharist ended with Vatican II...I doubt that anyone involved knows about that (although I do ;-))...IMO, there is no way Gov. Whitmer would consciously seek to denigrate ANY religion's practices...for what possible political gain can you imagine such an act?...especially just weeks before an election. To the contrary, some MI Bishops have previously sought to engage in politics by denigrating Joe Biden, who was welcomed by our Pope. If anyone is trying to score political points, it's the Bishops and Republican partisans.

I don't post often, but his reply to Whitmer's mockery is another example of his and some of his elitist board cohorts hypocrisy and "cafeteria" catholic beliefs. As usual he will go to his liberal research chest and reply.
Whatever the Michigan Bishop's problem is with Biden has nothing to do with Whitmer's mockery.
That utterance by the Bishop illustrates his (and others') willingness to politicize the Catholic
faith with an inappropriate and unnecessary criticism of Joe Biden's faith. Bishop Gruss, and other Republican aligned prelates focus on just one issue...Abortion...and fail to raise their voices to the same octave in criticism of Trump's treatment of immigrants, who are often deeply Catholic...nor does he and they express any concern for the lives of women who are victimized by forced and/or coerced pregnancies they never wanted.
As President, Joe Biden is responsible for the interests of the entire nation...not just Conservative Catholics, or Evangelical Christians who offer no remedies for innocent women victimized by sexual assault resulting in life changing...and sometimes, life-ending...pregnancies. JB's concerns also include many other serious issues, both Domestic and International...so for the Bishops to urge Catholics to not vote for Biden, they are sanctioning Trump who tried to overthrow our democracy and promise to allow our worst enemy free reign to do "Whatever he wants" with Ukraine, which would include mass assassinations and the ending of any hope for their own democracy.
Those Bishops need to preach about ALL issues affecting the human condition...provide meaningful insight in light of Christ's teachings and then encourage their congregations to discern for themselves when judging who to vote for.

Catholics need to take notice of her hatred. She then mocks us as they did in Paris by claiming that they were not doing what they were.
In the context of her adm treatment of the church, it is exactly what it looks like. No CHIPS act justifies the mockery and specifics carried out, and it goes well beyond the meme that they claim inspired it.
