I would say - growing pressure to release the house ethics committee investigation. Plus
he's not qualified. He was a practicing lawyer for four years, and that's being generous.

It was a weird pick with several possible interpretations.
1) Create a lightning rod to attract most Democrat opposition, perhaps easing the process for others?
2) Remove a bomb-thrower from a very thin House majority. Perhaps quid-pro-quo for Congressional recess from Mike Johnson?
3) Trigger a huge wave of resignations from DOJ/FBI?
4) Maybe Trump actually wants him at DOJ?
