I am curious, though. How long do we have to wait before we can all admit his movies were truly, truly awful?

I thought The Elephant Man, Blue Velvet and The Straight Story …were all excellent films

Blue Velvet was out there…but I thought it worked.

Not a fan. Regardless, I think Eraserhead remains the single worst movie ever made.

His Dune was comical.

I also didn't understand why people liked Twin Peaks.

I admit I've never seen The Elephant Man.

Some of his stuff was really confusing to watch.

But the pilot episode of Twin Peaks was one of the finest two hours in TV history. Bold, quirky, original. Not one misstep, in my opinion. I'd go further to say there were few missteps in all of Season 1. It was brilliant. After that it felt like ABC asked him to drag out the story and it lost its way.

Twin Peaks was ahead of its time. It was more suited to being a one season mini-series on a Netflix-like streaming service but they hadn't been invented yet.

I can reel (pun intended) off 20 much worse big budget movies of that era.

Elephant Man is virtuoso filmmaking. John Hurt does an incredible job in the lead role, as well. The Straight Story is the opposite of what seemed to bother you about his other films.

Different tastes. I've said many times how much I dislike Tarantino and his movies.

Agree with some of that. Would think you would like The Elephant Man and The Straight Story if you

saw them...but what do I know.

Twin Peaks was stylistically interesting at the start...but went nowhere.

Agree that much of what he did was bizarre for the sake of being bizarre.

HIs Dune was awful. Comically bad...

I'll look into both. I just felt like he was a con artist after Eraserhead.
