COVID was exploited by both sides... first by the Dems, who used it to rationalize humongously wasteful spending and useless social restrictions and then by Republicans who used it to whip irrational anti-government/science paranoia.

Bob Woodward...as for Dr. Tony Fauci, in March of 2020 the only Corona Virus reference was SARS-CoV (1), which had no transmission by non-symptomatic infected persons, therefore masks were not required...advisable, but no need to rush out and get high quality N95/KN95 masks, which were is very low supply, even for doctors and nurses...thus he didn't lie...in fact he NEVER lied about anything...otherwise, his own Infectious Disease Specialists would have called him out, instead of later praising him as a "Rock Star" for all the effort he put forth to help America get through the pandemic...and still keep Trump from firing him ;-).

Fauci lied repeatedly about funding gain of function research. And he himself said he lied about masks and the percentage of people necessary for vaccination. Later he admitted there was no science behind recommending masking (multiple studies prior to Covid all concluded they were ineffective).

Depending on the quality of mask being used (even cloth masks)...the time spent indoors...the number
of people there...the spacing of individuals... and the degree of ventilation there, mask wearers will realize a degree of self protection...in addition to protecting others if the weareer is infected. Ask any Infectious Disease Specialist in your HC system.
