The EU wants a seat at the table - multiple seats. But excluding Poland, who has always been our very best ally and who was involved in helping Ukraine before we were, the rest of the EU sat back and let the US do all of the heavy lifting when it came to Ukraine support.
And at the last effort, the Trump Adm argues that there were "too many countries with too many different voices and nothing got done".
Trump Adm wants Ukraine, Russia, and the US at the meeting (again, I would add in Poland but I strongly suspect that the Russians would look at that as stacking the deck for the US at the negotiation table). The EU claims that they should be there because the decisions could affect them directly. But the EU didn't ramp it up to help when Ukraine was invaded - even though the prosecution of the war would impact them directly also. They did virtually nothing and sat back to let the good old US do the work for them. The EU didn't want any part of the sacrifice, but they want a say in getting the most beneficial deal for themselves.
One very big piece promising news is that some in the EU are now proposing that they raise their contributions to NATO as a whole EU to equal that of the US going forward so that they can assure themselves of a seat at the table going forward.
I have my doubts about several of those freeloaders, but consequences are the only real teacher for the selfish.
